🤔 Why characters matter

📝 example
[ nǐ yǒu diàn ma? ]

Without seeing the characters, it may not be clear.
Many Chinese characters are pronounced diàn:
電 — electricity / battery / electric
店 — shop / store
墊 — pad / cushion
殿 — hall / palace

So this sentence could mean:
你有電嗎？ Do you have a battery / electricity?
or
你有店嗎？Do you own a shop?
Of course, with context, native speakers usually understand.
