🤝 Global Youth in Action for SDG 14: Beach Cleanup at Tamsui Shalun🌊

On July 4th, IHP students and members of the Belize Youth Advisory Council teamed up at Tamsui Shalun Beach for a beach cleanup with a twist!

Beyond picking up larger marine debris, the students rolled up their sleeves to sift through the sand in search of microplastics. It was an eye-opening experience to see just how many tiny plastic fragments are hidden in plain sight, directly threatening marine life (SDG 14: Life Below Water). 🔬🐚

A huge thank you to everyone who sweat it out in the sun to protect our beautiful marine ecosystems. Let’s keep making waves of positive change! 👋🐚

Exciting news in Alzheimer's research!

A breakthrough study led by Prof. Yi-Fang Chuang, Director of the International Health Program at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, has identified 59 "brain-protecting" gut microbes, specifically highlighting Akkermansia muciniphila. 🧠✨

The research, published in Alzheimer's Research & Therapy, analyzed 439 elders and found that individuals with a higher abundance of this next-generation probiotic show significantly less amyloid plaque accumulation in the brain.

While the exact causal mechanisms are still being explored, Prof. Chuang emphasizes that these findings pave the way for a promising new direction: the future development of "probiotic preventative medicine" for dementia. 🔬🦠
