本校於民國78年1月經行政院核定籌設，民國82年成立籌備處，民國84年8月動工，85年7月正式設校名為國立臺南藝術學院，93年8月改名為國立臺南藝術大學。校址位於風光明媚的臺南市官田區烏山頭水庫旁。
