掃墓祭祖 Tomb-sweeping & Ancestor Worship 🕯️

吃寒食 Cold Food Tradition ❄️
人們這天不生火，只吃冷食或事先煮好的食物，來紀念介之推的忠誠
People do not use fire on this day and eat only cold or pre-cooked food to remember Jie Zitui’s loyalty.

盪鞦韆 Swinging 🌤️
盪鞦韆象徵趕走身體病痛，而且盪得越高代表日子越順利。
Swinging is believed to drive away illness, and the higher one swings, the smoother life will be.

放風箏 Kite Flying🪁
放風箏象徵災禍與疾病也隨風消散。
Flying kites symbolize the removal of misfortune and illness.

📖 清明是二十四節氣之一，是天氣轉暖、萬物生長的時節，後來人們在清明這一天掃墓祭祖，逐漸形成清明節，此外，清明節也融合了寒食節的習俗，來紀念介之推 。
Qingming is one of the 24 solar terms, marking a time when the weather becomes warmer and everything begins to grow. Later, people began to visit graves and honor their ancestors on this day, gradually forming the Qingming Festival. 今年的活動我們特別準備了煙囪捲、熱紅酒, 還有許多小點心，大家聚在一起唱歌，迎接隔天的聖誕節。

This year, we specially prepared chimney cakes, hot mulled wine, and a variety of sweet treats. Everyone gathered together and welcomed Christmas with songs.🎶🎄

Mid-Autumn Festival Activity

今年的活動準備了月餅、柚子及各式點心，大家歡聚一堂，動手做燈籠，慶祝即將到來的中秋節㊗️
This year’s event featured mooncakes, pomelos, and a variety of snacks. Everyone gathered together to make lanterns and celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

七夕 ( qī xì ) Qixi Festival
On the seventh night of the seventh lunar month, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl are said to meet, and the day later became known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day.

Let's learn some vocabulary related to the Qixi Festival. 🌠

1️⃣七星娘娘 ( qī xīng niáng niang ) Seven Star Nyannyan
The Seven Star Goddess is said to bless children with health and safety, and is regarded as their guardian deity.

2️⃣七娘媽亭 ( qī niáng mā tíng ) Seven Star Goddess pavilion
The Seven Star Goddess pavilion is a special offering used to celebrate the birthday of the Seven Star Nyannyan .

3️⃣乞巧 ( qǐ qiǎo ) Praying for Skills
On the night of Qixi, women would offer sacrifices to heaven in their courtyards, hoping for a beautiful appearance; they also practiced threading needles under the moonlight, wishing for dexterous hands skilled in embroidery and weaving

4️⃣做十六歲 ( zuò shí liù suì ) Celebrating Sixteen
‘Celebrating Sixteen’ is a traditional Taiwanese ceremony. On Qixi, boys and girls pass through the ‘Niao Mu Gong,’ symbolizing leaving the protection of their guardian deity and stepping into a stage of independence and responsibility.

5️⃣油飯 ( yóu fàn ) Glutinous oil rice
Parents with young children or teenagers prepare glutinous oil rice offerings to the Seven Star Nyannyan on Qixi, praying for their children’s safety and healthy growth.

6️⃣湯圓 ( tāng yuán ) Tangyuan
Traditionally, Tangyuan offered to Seven Star Nyannyan have a hollow in the center, called ‘thngkue.’ According to a romantic legend, the hollow is meant to hold the tears of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl when they reunite on Qixi.
