The international monetary system is entering a period of profound transition. Geopolitical tensions are straining cooperation, technological advances such as digital currencies are reshaping cross-border finance, and the long-standing dominance of the U.S. dollar is being questioned. These shifts have revealed deep structural weaknesses, from unsustainable sovereign debt and inadequate crisis-response tools to persistent financing gaps for sustainable development. At the same time, representation within global financial institutions remains unequal, limiting the voice of developing countries in critical decisions. The challenge before the international community is therefore clear: to reform the system in ways that strengthen stability, broaden inclusion, and ensure that global finance can adapt to emerging risks while supporting long-term development.

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the General Assembly, responsible for questions of disarmament, arms control, and the wider challenges to international peace. It is the UN’s annual forum where states debate pressing security issues, from nuclear non-proliferation to confidence-building measures, seeking solutions that strengthen trust and stability in the global order. Unlike the Security Council, DISEC does not adopt binding resolutions; its influence lies in shaping norms and recommendations that carry political and moral weight across the international community.

For delegates, DISEC is an arena where diplomacy is practiced in its truest form : ideas must be carefully crafted, compromises negotiated, and coalitions built. Success here depends not on power alone, but on the ability to balance technical detail with political vision, and to transform individual proposals into frameworks that can command broad support.
At CentMUN, DISEC will take up the challenge of Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, one of the most enduring questions of global security.
