What is the Taiwan Debate Union?

The Taiwan Debate Union (TDU) is the national body for competitive English debating in Taiwan. Since 2015, TDU has selected and trained Team Taiwan for the World Schools Debating Championships alongside training the next generation of Taiwanese debaters and growing the debate community nationwide.

Every debater who has carried the flag onto a world stage started in a room like this one.

How the tryout works?

TSDC is an official stage of the National Squad selection process.

▸ Perform strongly at TSDC → direct acceptance into the National Squad, or an invitation to the Stage 2 Tryout.
▸ Competed or judged at TSDC → a lighter test load at Stage 2 for those invited on the strength of an outstanding track record (speaker ranks, judge feedback).
▸ Unable to attend → proof of legitimate reasons must be submitted to the TDU committee.

Missing TSDC does not end the journey. But attending is the clearest, fastest path into the Squad — and the record built here is the record that speaks at Stage 2.
