We’re pleased to announce the opening of “Thermal-Tectonics” at the Harvard Graduate School of Design!

A collaborative research and design initiative between NCKU, MIT, and Harvard, this exhibition investigates the building façade as a primary site for innovation. Led by Lindsay Hu, Joseph Kennedy, and Zhi-Ray Wang, the work features 60 site surveys and 5 climate-driven projects developed by 32 NCKU architecture students.
The research explores how the “informal” architectural modifications common in Taiwan’s urban landscape can serve as a living archive for bottom-up climatic adaptation and sustainable urban renewal.

The accompanying publication, which compiles the collective research and design proposals from the workshop, will be officially released during the event.

Meet Tsung-Han Robin Hsieh, a Taiwanese talent with a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Sciences, who has made significant contributions to the mechatronic system design of a groundbreaking bionic ankle-foot prosthesis. This innovation, paired with a novel surgical procedure that enhances neural feedback from residual limbs, was tested in a study involving seven patients. The participants demonstrated more natural walking and improved obstacle navigation, thanks to enhanced neural feedback.
Conducted under the leadership of Hugh Herr at MIT Media Lab, the research was published in Nature Medicine and has received widespread attention from outlets such as The Boston Globe, The Guardian, STAT, and The Washington Post.

The main purpose of the MIT Taiwan SA+P group is to create a platform for facilitating resource sharing, cultural exchange, and social connection among students from Taiwan in MIT’s School of Architecture + Planning.

The group envisioned itself as an equal and free place where current students, alumni, professionals in the industry, and academia can share insights, opportunities, and experiences. It aims to serve not only as a bridge connecting different generations and disciplines within the field of technology and design but also as a vibrant hub for cultural and professional exchange beyond the MIT campus.
