In an article about the current literacy levels of 4th Graders in the US- 31% of students scored "below" basic reading level in reading performance.

Are you surprised? Is this number kind of shocking?

Well, despite the ongoing efforts of dedicated teachers inside the classroom, some children really need a different approach to overcome reading disability or spelling/writing struggles. These struggles translate to what we commonly know as dyslexia or dysgraphia......

There is an abundance of scientific evidence, that structured literacy is the "go to" to help struggling learners. Unfortunately, most teachers are not trained in this approach, which requires strong knowledge of the structure of English language and literacy.

Numerous programs are out there that incorporate structured literacy into their framework, but unfortunately, not all are as equal to one another.

Do look for programs that are approved by IDA ( International Dyslexia Association). Even better, find an educator, trained in the field of structured literacy.

If you are truggling to read and/or write, address the problem now! It's never too late, but, the earlier the better I would say.

Todays thoughts. 💭 💭

Ive been working with many students who have been exhibit many ADHD symptoms.

Its a HUGE challenge for teachers to cope with such a wide scope of learning differences. More importantly, these students have HUGE difficulties in coping in an educational and or working setting. 😭

If you are diagnosed with ADHD, then a stimulant medication to adapt and cope is usually prescribed, but often, even with the optimum dosage , it is NOT enough to improve performance.


Educational Therapy and coaching could be the BRIDGE between teachers/tutors and clinicians. WHY?

Teachers are to teach the whole class and not focus on one or two struggling children at a time .

Tutors are not trained to work with children who have learning challenges.

Educational psychologists are to diagnose and to approve on special education needs , but are not able to improve on specific academia.

Educational therapy and coaching provides a combination of behavioral interventions AND academic strategies for successful results .

With ADHD in particular, we aim to help them to learn how to self monitor and stay focused for longer periods of time. Organisational strategies will be looked into to helping them improve their level of executive function which ultimately improves their academics. 🧐

There is a REAL URGENCY and NEED to address these students who are failing at work or in school!
