Dear MAK parents, here is some updated info about the annual MAK talent show:

Date & Time: February 17th, 6~9 pm

Audition
-Video audition deadline is extended to Feb. 5
-If video audition is not possible, you can sign up for live audition during lunch and after school on Monday, Feb. 6 or Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Tickets
-Before 2/10: 150 NT per person
-After 2/10: 200 NT per person
-Staff families: 100 NT per person

Raffle
-Raffle tickets: 100 NT per ticket
-We really look forward to your generous donations. If you would like to donate raffle prizes (past prizes include ipad, headphones, kids toys, sunglasses...etc) , please bring it to the front office (shark shop) by 2/10

-Please order the tickets through this ticket pre-order form and pay at the front office
-Children age 4 or below do not have to purchase a ticket
-There will not be physical talent show tickets given, names will be checked off at the door, but you will receive physical raffle tickets at the event.
-Juniors and seniors do not have to purchase tickets as they will be helping out, but their families still need to purchase tickets.

Helloooo High School!!!

Spirit week is coming up next week, from Jan. 16 to Jan. 20. Each day there will be a different theme and an activity relating to the theme. Unlike previous years, the point calculations this time are based on houses, including both participation and activity results. The winner house will receive additional house points as well as a tea order paid by HouseCo.

The spirit week “days” are as follow:

* Monday - House Spirit Day (Activity Location: Gym)
* Tuesday - Pajama Day (Activity Location: Gym)
* Wednesday - Cartoon Day (Activity Location: Outdoor Basketball Court)
* Thursday - Punk Day (Activity Location: Library)
* Friday - School Spirit Day (Activity Location: Gym)

On Monday TTT, please head straight to the gym for our first activity, and please sit on the bleachers under your house flag.

On Tuesday, please go straight to your advisory. The activity will be during lunch.

For Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, activities will also be during lunch time, and each house will be assigned to a different homeroom as follow:

* Tiger - HS Science
* Mako - HS2
* Hammerhead - HS5
* Thresher - HS4�

Note that participation will be graded throughout the day, so please keep your costumes on THE WHOLE DAY in order to receive full credit.

P.S. Try to think outside the box how you are going to dress up.

Hello MAK!

The auditioning process for the 2017 Talent Show "Sharks got Talents" on Feb. 17th has begun. For all interested in performing, please submit a video of your performance as the audition at [email protected]. The length of each act must be under 4 minutes, so the video should be just a little over the maximum time. Please submit your video audition by the midnight of Jan. 22nd.

Please bear in mind that submitted videos DO NOT have to be slick, edited masterpieces. In fact, we would much rather see a straightforward performance that shows your talent. We encourage you to incorporate a diversity of elements into your performance to make it creative and entertaining.

After we review the video auditions, we may request you to do a live audition, if necessary. A letter will be sent out after Chinese New Year Break to inform whether you are accepted or not, and if accepted, whether you need a live audition or not.

To show our gratitude to your participation, you have the chance to receive a prize of the following categories on the day:

-Cutest Performance
-Funniest Performance
-Most Creative Performance
-Most Dramatic Performance
-Sharkiest Performance

-Best Overall Performance

我們不建議有剪接或修飾過的甄選的影片。我們非常鼓勵您加入創意與逗趣的元素到表演之中，得以增加您被甄選的機率。
我們將在審查過後告知每位甄選者結果。如果需要，ＨouseCo. 會額外要求甄選者現場表演作為第二輪的甄選。 為了鼓勵多元性，我們將頒發獎品給最可愛、最搞笑、最有創意、最戲劇化、最有校風、以及整體最佳的表演。

The High School Halloween Day is happening TOMORROW, October 31st!!! Please don't forget to dress up as there are prizes for:

1. most creative costume
2. best team costume
3. most funny costume
4. highest class participation

The winner(s) for each will be judged by teachers and announced at the end of the day. We really encourage you to participate and come to school in your favorite character outfit! But remember, don't make it too scary because there are elementary kids around!!

MAK welcomes all families and friends of the community to enjoy our carnival and family day!

Attractions include: inflatable bouncy slide with pool, hamster balls, flea market, delicious snacks, and fun water games run by the high schoolers! Additional activities that are new this year include: free family games (from 5:00-5:30), as well as arts and crafts sessions for children ages 3-10. The community booths that are run by clubs, houses, or other school groups will require cash, but to participate in games you will have to purchase carnival tickets. There will be no entrance fee to the carnival, but dinner tickets are required if you are staying for the family BBQ. You can purchase dinner tickets and pre-order carnival tickets during the class teas or at the front office. Please note that carnival tickets are also available at the door, but guests will not be able to stay for the dinner without a pre-ordered ticket.

If you would like to sign-up for the arts and crafts sessions, please do so during the class teas or at the front office. The price for each session is 250 NT, and the maximum number of kids for each session is 20, so please sign-up and pay ASAP to secure your spot!
Session 1: 3:15~4:00 pm
Session 2: 4:15~5:00 pm

Dinner Ticket Prices (for 5 years and above):
Before September 19th (include 19th): 450 NT
After September 19th: 500 NT
*Each dinner ticket includes 10 FREE carnival tickets

Pre-Order Carnival Tickets (WITH Dinner Ticket) for:
350 NT/20 tickets

Carnival Ticket Price At The Door:
200 NT/10 tickets

If you would like to set up a community booth that benefits a school group (a high school class, a house, a club...etc), please either:
1. Fill in the sign up sheet that will be shared with the high schoolers and staff on monday morning (September 5th) or
2. Contact HouseCo through Nini Lee at [email protected] or Melissa Brabon at [email protected]. The flat fee for setting up a booth is 600 NT to HouseCo, and includes a tent, a table, a poster, and several chairs. The types of booth are open to anything except for games, lemonade, and meals (i.e. dinner).

What's up MAK high school???

The club fair is going to be NEXT TUESDAY from 3:30~4:15. We have a lot of exciting and remarkable clubs waiting for you to sign up. Please be at the library before 3:30 to learn more about how you can spend your Tuesday and Thursday afterschools doing the things that YOU like!

Helloooo high schoolers,

Hope you are all enjoying your summer vacation. As most of you know, there will be club time on both Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:15. This is a time where you can experience areas of your interests outside of school subjects. Though it is not mandatory to join a club, it is highly encouraged as clubs can strengthen your college applications (especially if you are the leader) and allow you to take your interests into the next level.

If you are thinking of being a club leader next year, please fill out the club form (link below) by August 10th (the 3rd day into school). Also, please think about how you can present your club at the club fair to attract more members to join.

Some other things to think about:
1. Why should people join your club instead of the other ones?
2. What makes your club outstanding?
3. What do you hope to get from the club? What do you offer your members to get out of your club?
4. Where do you see your club heading in the next 2 or 3 years?

Each club is required to have a sponsor teacher from MAK, it is the club leaders’ job to contact that teacher and coordinate all matters.

There will be a meeting between the club leaders and house-co sometime on the first week of school. Please prepare some ideas or suggestions for the club fair before the meeting.
