1995年，基於自己的留學經驗， 我們發覺一般人所受的英文教育只是為了應付學校考試，無法用英文與別人自然溝通。英文除了是個溝通的語言，更是一項學習的工具－用英語來學習各項學科，吸收新的知識。所以英語應該是從小培養起，就像父母教幼兒說國語，爺爺奶奶教台語，客語一樣自然。基於這樣的理念---怎樣學母語，就怎樣學英語，我們創辦了長春藤外語補習班與長春藤托兒所。我們希望為自己的孩子奠立良好的英文基礎，有能力在國際化的環境中擁有競爭力。
After we came back from America where we had a very big conflict from our experiences of learning English, Edward, my husband, and I (Joanna) wanted to set up a strong and complete English learning environment for Taiwanese children and let them have the abilities to face a global competition in their future. We want children not only to listen, to speak, to read and to write English, but also to think in English like our mother language. “The way we learn mother language is the way we learn English.” That’s the beginning of Ivy School.
