During a recent interview, a student and I were discussing AI regulation and the future of how we verify authentic human work. The conversation went somewhere I did not expect.
She described submitting an essay, her own words, her own thinking, written without any AI involvement. It came back flagged.
Her question was one I think every school, parent, and employer needs to sit with right now. How do we use AI as a tool for checking authenticity without creating exactly this kind of experience for students who are trying to do the right thing?
When she said it, I told her honestly that these stories pain me. Because they reflect a confusion that both young people and adults are navigating as technology moves faster than our systems can keep up with.
The answer is not more software. It is knowing your students well enough that you do not need a tool to tell you whether the work is theirs. Parents who know how their child writes. Mentors who have read a hundred drafts. Teachers who have watched the thinking develop over time. That is the original authenticity checker.
What struck me most was what sat underneath her frustration. She is not against AI. She uses it herself, including a custom bot she built to practice for Spanish oral exams. Her position is more nuanced than most adults manage: use it alongside your learning, not instead of it.
She also said this, and I have not stopped thinking about it since.
“The most important aspect of school is teaching students how to learn and want to learn. The biggest takeaway I’ve had is that throughout my stages of life, I’ve wanted to learn and been curious.”
Not the grades. Not the checklist. The desire to stay curious.

Today I learned… How stepping out of my comfort zone led to a silver medal.
Signing up for tournaments was unfamiliar territory, especially since my two previous losses. We got pickled! 🌟
Entering a third one wasn’t on my summer radar. 😳
Until I teamed up with a kind, competitive partner who transformed my approach. 🎾

❓ So what is Learning Power? Is a question we get asked a lot.....
🤓 Our Learning Power self assessment measures the eight personal qualities that fuel human resilience; i.e the ability to learn and change. We are all born with Learning Power, but how much do we use it?!
💡The eight dimensions of Learning Power are: Openness to Learning, Mindful Agency, Sense-making, Creativity, Curiosity, Belonging, Collaboration and Hope and Optimism.
🤔 Understanding your own Learning Power profile and receiving personalised feedback offers the opportunity for deep self reflection and stimulates self directed change.
👀 A Learning Power profile makes visible the idea that we may have a greater range of qualities and capabilities available to us than we typically use.
Some important points about your profile:
👉 It is not a test, there is no right or wrong.
👉 It is plastic and elastic, your profile will change with context and over time.
👉 It does not label or grade.
👉 It attends to the whole human - your identity, purpose, values and context
👉 It offers a simple language that can be adapted to context and culture
👉 It is a valid and reliable measurement model deep rooted in 23 years of science and research proven with over 100+ datasets across different contexts...
👉 It can be embedded into a coaching framework for improved performance, wellbeing and business results
👉 It can bookend any project, course, programme or learning journey - completing a second profile and comparing it with the first can enable you to demonstrate and articulate how your ability to learn and build resilience has changed and improved alongside the more traditional measures of success.

A few weeks ago, I received an offer in my inbox for a position w SpaceX specific to Southern Texas.
While I was honored to receive the opportunity, I realized that this offer could not just sit in my inbox alongside countless teachers who are also looking for opportunities. I reached out to a few connections I thought could be interested, but I came up dry. I guess no one wants to live in Southern Texas these days.
I wanted to share the wealth of opportunities like this with all teachers who are looking for what's next. I built the comfort of a virtual teachers' room within my previous role as cofounder with 30+ educators. But it always felt like a struggle to help others understand the power and possibilities of uniting and supporting teachers.
This can be that space for any educator who, just like me a few years back, needed one conversation and one connection to help me try something different.
