一根牙籤、一顆小棉花糖，看似簡單的材料，卻能帶來一場充滿商業思維的挑戰！

在 AP Business 課堂中，學生挑戰經典的 Marshmallow Tower Challenge。這一次，他們不只是要蓋出一座高塔，更要把自己當成一間企業，在有限的資源與時間下做出最好的商業決策。

學生需要先“購買”牙籤與小棉花糖，再利用手上的資源設計並搭建一座能夠獨立站立的結構，最終目標是讓自己的企業獲得最大的利潤，同時盡可能有效率地運用有限資源。

真正的挑戰，並不只是「誰蓋得最高」，而是如何在有限的資源、時間與不同想法之間，做出最適合團隊的決策。

💡 Resource Allocation｜資源配置
有限的資金與材料，要如何有效運用？是投入更多資源追求高度，還是選擇更穩定、更有效率的設計？

🧠 Decision-Making｜決策能力
是先花時間規劃完整的設計，還是先投入資源開始嘗試？在有限時間裡，每一個決定都可能影響企業最後的成果。

📊 Risk Management｜風險管理
更高的塔可能帶來更好的成果，但也可能增加結構不穩定的風險。學生必須在追求更高報酬與控制風險之間取得平衡。

🤝 Leadership & Communication｜領導與溝通
當團隊成員都有不同的想法時，如何溝通、分工、傾聽彼此的意見，並做出共同決策？

🔄 Iteration｜測試與改進
當一個策略沒有奏效，並不代表遊戲結束。學生需要觀察結果、找出問題、重新思考，再調整自己的策略。

而這正是 Business 中非常重要的一件事：

💡好的想法只是開始，真正的挑戰在於如何執行。

在真實的商業世界裡，企業同樣面對有限的資源、時間壓力、不確定性與不同的觀點。成功不只是來自一個好的 idea，更來自於如何做出好的決策、有效運用資源、承擔風險，並從結果中持續學習與調整。

透過這次 Marshmallow Tower Challenge，學生將課堂上的商業概念帶進實際情境。從購買材料到規劃、建造、測試，再到最後計算成果，每一個步驟都讓學生實際體驗企業經營中所面對的選擇與挑戰。

In our AP Business class, students took on the classic Marshmallow Tower Challenge. Working in teams, students "purchased" toothpicks and mini marshmallows. Their task was to design and build a freestanding structure to make the most profit for their businesses using the least resources.

The real challenge wasn’t simply about building the tallest tower. It was about making decisions with limited resources, limited time, and different ideas within a team.

💡 Resource Allocation
How should limited materials be used? Should the team focus on stability, height, or a balance of both?

🧠 Decision-Making
Should they spend more time planning, or start building and learn through testing?

📊 Risk Management
A taller structure may offer greater potential, but it can also be less stable. Students had to consider the balance between ambition and risk.

🤝 Leadership & Communication
When team members have different ideas, how do they communicate, divide responsibilities, and reach a shared decision?

🔄 Iteration
When an idea doesn’t work, the process doesn’t stop. Students observe, rethink, adjust, and try again.

And this is one of the most important lessons in business:

💡A good idea is only the beginning. Ex*****on makes the difference.

In the real business world, companies constantly work with limited resources, time constraints, uncertainty, and different perspectives.

Success isn’t simply about having the best idea. It’s about making thoughtful decisions, taking action, learning from results, and adapting along the way.

Through the Marshmallow Tower Challenge, our students turned business concepts into a real hands-on experience.

Starting with nothing more than toothpicks and mini marshmallows, they learned to think critically, collaborate, make decisions, solve problems, and improve through experience.

PBL 又開始了！🎒🌏
這一次，我們把目光放回學校所在的地方——芎林✨

第一堂課，老師帶著學生們在教室裡分組討論，從自己對芎林的印象開始，認識這裡的特色、景點與生活環境。🗺️💭

但這一次，我們不只是「認識芎林」，
更想問問孩子們：

「如果我們可以讓芎林變得更好，你會想改變什麼？」💡

從地方特色、景點，到生活中看見的問題，學生們透過討論與分享，開始思考芎林有哪些值得被看見的地方，又有哪些地方可以有不同的可能。PBL 的學習，從來不只是課本上的知識，而是從身邊真實的環境出發，觀察、提問、思考，並試著提出自己的想法。 🌱

PBL is back! 🎒🌏

This time, we’re turning our attention to Qionglin, the place where our school is located.

In the first lesson, students worked in groups with their teachers to share what they already know about Qionglin and explore its unique features, local attractions, and surrounding environment. 🗺️💭

But this time, we’re not just learning about Qionglin.

We’re also asking:

“If we could make Qionglin a better place, what would you change?” 💡

From local features and attractions to things they notice in their everyday lives, students shared their ideas and began thinking about what makes Qionglin special, what could be improved, and what possibilities they can imagine for the future.

PBL is more than just learning from a textbook. It starts with the real world around us—observing, asking questions, thinking critically, and developing ideas of our own. 🌱

This time, we’re starting with Qionglin, using the students’ perspectives to take a fresh look at the place where we learn and spend our days.

During Paul and Angela McIsaac' recent AP Conference in Canada, they had the opportunity to tour CIC's campus and dorm facilities. Mr. Chan, the founder of CIC and Mr Danny, one of the parents' Liason officers, conducted the tours. Some of the highlights of the school were the professional culinary classroom, the Robitic's classroom, and the steps CIC takes to help students.

After the campus tour, they toured the student dorms. Both dorms were impressive. Set in a quiet residential park area, they would provide students with a wide range of activities and facilities to use. Each dorm had their own indoor gym with a wide variety of exercise equipment and spaces. This includes an indoor swimming pool locally attached to the boy's dorm.

此次 Paul 與 Angela 老師前往加拿大參加 AP Conference 期間，也特別參訪了 CIC（Columbia International College）校園及學生宿舍，由 CIC 創辦人 Mr. Chan 與家長聯絡主任 Mr. Danny 親自接待並導覽。

參訪過程中，最令人印象深刻的是學校完善的教學設施，包括專業廚藝教室、機器人教室，以及學校為協助學生學習與生活所建立的各項支持系統，充分展現 CIC 對學生全方位發展的重視。

隨後，他們也實地參觀了學生宿舍。宿舍座落於寧靜的住宅區，提供學生安全舒適的生活環境，同時規劃豐富的休閒與運動設施。每棟宿舍皆設有完善的室內健身房，配備多樣化的運動器材與活動空間，其中男生宿舍更設有室內游泳池，讓學生在課餘時間也能維持健康、充實的生活。

🎓✨【End of School Year Ceremony 】✨

Today marks not only the end of the semester, but also an important milestone in our students’ learning journey.

During the closing ceremony, we celebrated our middle school graduates as they received their diplomas, marking a memorable chapter of their youth. 🎓

We also presented awards for the PBL (Project-Based Learning) Exhibition, recognizing students’ dedication and creativity throughout the process of ideation, research, discussion, and hands-on implementation. Each project reflects students’ ability to observe the world, solve problems, and transform their ideas into meaningful actions.
