In 2025, the Dora Maar Cultural Center supported 28 fellowships. M.K. Foster shares the impact that her residency had on her work :
“One of the things that’s been really unique working here on my novel…as an independent writer and scholar, it can often be very difficult for me to get to spaces where I can produce at the volume that I’ve been making—and to have the kind of community, and support and funding that I need to move my projects forward. So [my time at] Dora Maar has been especially beautiful, and I’m excited to say that I’ve completed about nine chapters of my book while I’ve been here. I’ve completed a triptych of fairy tales, which has been inspired by Ménerbes. And I’ve completed at least one essay that’s been accepted for publication, and also moved forward a collection of poetry… It’s just been really special to be here and be a part of this legacy that is this house and that is Dora’s vision for artists and the Nancy B. Negley vision…it’s been a joy to be part of this legacy.”

Our “In Seeing Bach” is just two weeks away from now… Most welcome!

Dear friends and lovers of music and art,
After nearly five years of planning, "In Seeing Bach" is finally ready to present five monumental ink artworks, each five meters tall, accompanied by Dr. Franck Bernède's interpretation of Bach's cello suites. We are honored and grateful that Ven. Guoli, Vice Abbot of Dharma Drum Mountain, has greatly appreciated Franck's artistic depth and shares our aspiration to offer music as a means of spiritual devotion, making this beautiful event at the Baoyun Temple in Taichung possible. May this be the beginning of many more opportunities to enrich sacred spaces through art and music for the benefit of all beings.
With immense joy, we sincerely invite you to join us for the premiere exhibition and concert of "In Seeing Bach," a collaborative international project curated by Sunny, founder of Gallery Sun, and featuring Franck, the renowned French cellist now residing in Taiwan, alongside French ink artist Paule Riché and her striking five-meter-high artworks.
This concert will take place on July 6th at the grand hall of Dharma Drum Mountain's Baoyun Temple in Taichung. It combines visual arts and music, centering on J.S. Bach's cello suites. Through the integration of ink paintings and ancient instrumental performances, they present a resonance and reflection between music and painting.
Initially titled "Brush and Bow," this project developed through many points of contact, such as the fundamental elements of bowing gestures and brushstrokes. Reflecting on the creation of music and painting, it traces back to their creative sources and is presented in this concert today. The interplay of images and musical notes reveals a resonance that transcends words and ideas, aiming to offer "sound calligraphy." We invite you to immerse yourself in this artistic creation within a sacred space.
