#韓門苗刀，坊間較為人知的名稱為「四路苗刀」，由韓門始祖 #韓慶堂宗師 來台後所傳。然而，此套苗刀與現今中國大陸流傳的苗刀體系，無論招式、動作、身法，有著明顯之不同，其源流可追溯至抗日戰爭時期。

民國二十六年（1937年），韓慶堂宗師受命於浙江金華組織抗日保衛隊。為因應戰時需求，韓宗師根據原有之苗刀技法，融合「破鋒八刀」的精簡戰術理念，編創出一套非常實用之軍事戰技教材，最初名為「 #破鋒刀」或「 #破鋒戰刀」。

由於當時所編初版教材的動作、步法與身法變化，試教後發現對一般軍人以及毫無武術基礎的民兵而言，學習較為不易，因此韓宗師又進一步地將內容簡化，修改為「一個口令、一個動作」的訓練方式，全套共四個八拍，便於集體教學與快速訓練。同時為了與大刀隊的 #破鋒八刀 做區別，故正式將此教材定名為「四路苗刀」。

因此，四路苗刀並非一般表演套路，而是一套誕生於抗戰時期、以實戰需求為核心所設計的軍事刀術教材。至於最初版破鋒戰刀教材，因步法較為複雜，後來逐漸成為較少人知曉的進階練法，也是韓宗師較少公開提及的部分。

韓慶堂宗師的長子 #韓樹英老師，生前將此進階練法完整傳授予姪子 #韓基祥，使這套承載著抗戰歷史與韓門精神的刀法得以延續至今。

What You Didn't Know About

, commonly known as Silu Miaodao (Four-Section Miaodao), was brought to Taiwan and transmitted by the founder of the Han Style martial arts tradition, Grandmaster . However, this system differs significantly from the Miaodao traditions commonly practiced in Mainland China today. Its origins can be traced back to the Second Sino-Japanese War.

In 1937, Grandmaster Han Qingtang was assigned to organize Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Forces in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. To meet the demands of wartime training, he developed a practical saber curriculum based on traditional Miaodao methods while incorporating the tactical concepts of the . This curriculum was originally known as (Breaking the Edge Saber) or .

Because the original version contained more complex movements, footwork, and body mechanics, it proved difficult for ordinary soldiers and civilian militia with little or no martial arts experience to learn efficiently. Grandmaster Han therefore further simplified the material into a training system based on the principle of “one command, one movement.” The complete curriculum was organized into four sections of eight counts, making it ideal for group instruction and rapid military training. To distinguish it from the practiced by the Dadao units, the curriculum was officially named Silu Miaodao (Four-Section Miaodao).

For this reason, Silu Miaodao is not merely a performance routine. It is a military saber-training system developed during wartime, designed specifically around practical combat requirements. The original Pofeng War Saber curriculum, with its more sophisticated footwork and tactical applications, gradually became an advanced method known to only a small number of practitioners and was seldom discussed publicly by Grandmaster Han.

Before his passing, Grandmaster Han’s eldest son, , passed this advanced method in its entirety to his nephew, , ensuring the preservation of this unique martial legacy rooted in both Han Style tradition and wartime history.

In addition, Grandmaster Han’s disciple devoted decades to the promotion and teaching of traditional Chinese martial arts. Through his tireless efforts, Silu Miaodao became one of the most widely practiced traditional weapons curricula within Taiwan’s . His work influenced generations of practitioners and helped preserve and spread this martial system born from the hardships of wartime China.

Silu Miaodao is more than a saber form—it is a Han Style legacy forged in the fires of war. It carries the practical combat wisdom of the Anti-Japanese Resistance and stands as an important chapter in the development of traditional Chinese martial arts in Taiwan.

For many people, the age of 80 may be a time to enjoy a peaceful retirement. But for , eighty remains a golden age for expressing passion, practicing martial arts, and passing on a lifelong legacy.

This video was recorded when Master Fu Song-Nan, the teacher of Hanmen Grandmaster , was 80 years old. While in Venezuela, he personally demonstrated the (六合大刀) for his students and disciples. With the broadsword sweeping through the air and his footwork steady and precise, his movements embodied the power of a soaring dragon and a leaping tiger. Every swing reflected decades of disciplined training and refinement; every technique carried the profound cultural heritage of traditional Chinese martial arts. Despite being in his eighties, Master Fu remained energetic, commanding, and full of vitality, earning enthusiastic applause and admiration from everyone present.

During his years teaching traditional arts in Taiwan, Master Fu would often say to :

These simple words reveal one of the most precious values of martial arts transmission.

Demonstrating San Lu Pao Quan at Age 70 — The Martial Spirit of Master Meng Xianming, One of the Han Men Five Tigers

This rare footage of San Lu Pao Quan (Third Road Cannon Fist) was recorded when Master Meng Xianming was seventy years old.

Master Meng was a senior disciple of Grandmaster Han Qing Tang and one of the renowned Five Tigers of Han Men. Although he maintained a relatively low profile within the public martial arts community, he was an influential figure whose contributions significantly shaped the development and transmission of Han Men Kung Fu.

In this video, Master Meng personally demonstrates Han Men's San Lu Pao Quan at the age of seventy. Every movement is precise and disciplined; his footwork remains stable and well-rooted, and each technique is executed with care and purpose. There is no unnecessary display or showmanship—only the quiet confidence and depth that come from decades of dedicated practice.

What made Master Meng especially remarkable was his refusal to be confined by convention.

While preserving the traditions of Han Style Long Fist, he spent many years studying the Daoist cultivation methods of the Kunlun Xianzong tradition. Through this research, he gradually integrated martial technique, internal training, and Daoist cultivation principles, ultimately developing a complete martial system uniquely his own.

His spirit of exploration and innovation profoundly influenced Han Men Director Han Jixiang, inspiring many of his perspectives regarding the preservation and future development of traditional martial arts.

One statement that Master Meng often emphasized was:

«“Computers are updated every year. How can Chinese martial arts remain unchanged and outdated?”»

Though simple in its wording, this statement reveals his deepest understanding of traditional martial arts.

True preservation is not the rigid duplication of the past. Likewise, innovation does not mean abandoning one's roots. The genuine martial spirit lies in respecting tradition while continuously testing, refining, and improving it, allowing the wisdom of previous generations to remain relevant in every era.

This remains one of the most valuable lessons that Master Meng left to future generations of Han Men practitioners.

As we revisit this precious footage of Master Meng performing San Lu Pao Quan at seventy years of age, we witness more than a martial arts form. We witness the lifelong pursuit of mastery, learning, and self-cultivation embodied by a true martial artist.

At this year’s Asia-Pacific preliminary round of the New Tang Dynasty International Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Competition, many competitors showcased impressive skill. Yet the performance that earned the highest praise from Master Han was the Da Liuhe Spear demonstration by Master Chen Shao-Hsuan, director of Qing Wu Xue – Martial Arts Culture Promotion Center in Kaohsiung.

The Liuhe Spear is already considered one of the more demanding traditional weapons disciplines, emphasizing unity of stance and waist movement, with power flowing seamlessly throughout the body. The spear Master Chen wielded was exceptionally heavy, requiring not only strength, but true mastery to control.

Even under the intense pressure of competition, Master Chen maintained remarkable stability, powerful expression, and effortless control throughout his routine. Every movement reflected years of disciplined training and deep-rooted foundation. Without genuine skill forged through long-term dedication, such composure would be impossible.

Martial artistry like this deserves recognition.
Traditional kung fu of this caliber deserves to be seen by more people.
