The Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) is a Department in the Faculty of Humanities and Education, The University of the West Indies, St.

Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. The original Creative Arts Centre was established in 1986 through the initiatives of the late Dr. Pat Ismond, then Head of Literatures in English, with Rawle Gibbons as its Founding Director. In 2006, the Centre became a Department and continues to grow, offering courses and a place to explore the cultural expressions of Trinidad and Tobago and, by extension, the Ca

ribbean through instruction in the creative arts at the highest level of academic, professional and technical accreditation available at, or through, The University of the West Indies. The Department offers programmes at four levels:

1.Certificate
2.Undergraduate Degree
3.Occasional
4.Postgraduate

The Department offers two undergraduate specials, three majors, two postgraduate diplomas, one MA degree, and five certificates, which can be pursued on a full-time and/or part-time basis at The University of the West Indies. 1.Musical Arts Special – 54 credits
2.Visual Arts Special – 54 credits
3.Theatre Arts Major – 36 credits
4.Carnival Studies Major – 36 credits
5.Dance Major – 36 credits

Postgraduate Programmes

1.Postgraduate Diploma in Arts and Cultural Enterprise Management (ACEM) 2.Postgraduate Diploma in The Teaching of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
3.MA in Creative Design: Entrepreneurship

Certificate Programmes

The certificate programmes are geared to meet the needs of the young practising artists. Most classes are held on evenings.

◦Certificate in Musical Arts (Pan) - two years
◦Certificate in Visual Arts - two years
◦Practitioner’s Certificate in Drama/Theatre in Education – one year
◦Certificate in Technical Theatre Production – one year
◦Certificate in Dance and Dance Education - one year & one semester
All certificate programmes allow for matriculation at the undergraduate degree level, if students obtain B+ GPA. These programmes are usually advertised in January. Special programmes are also offered:
