Augustine Campus Actuarial Science Club is an organization run by students who are pursuing a degree or interested in the field of Actuarial Science. This club aims to enhance students’ knowledge on actuarial science, what jobs or opportunities are available during and after undergraduate level studies, provide information on programs available at abroad universities to further in the field and also offering exemptions. From the past year’s events, you have seen that our events are quite unique (Prof Broverman’s jazz concert and informative session) which makes this club stand out. By hosting informative lecture sessions (Prof. Sam Broverman’s lecture to year 2’s and 3’s), guest speaking seminars (Sagicor and First Citizens Bank) and other conferences (last year the CAA conference happened to be hosted at the Hilton in Trinidad), the club strives to educate its fellow members on the different paths offered to become an actuary and help you decide which path is best suited for you. The degree offered at this campus has become increasingly competitive since applicants have exceptional CAPE / CAPE equivalent grades. Smart, about 6% or less of the students currently would become actuaries but by pulling all our resources together we strive to increase this percentage over the years. Resources would include actuarial manuals for various exams and extra study materials needed for the core courses within the degree. With an executive team ranging from year ones to final year students, the club has a keen understanding on the pressures of pursuing the degree. It furthermore would like to incorporate “de-stressing” activities for everyone’s benefit in hopes of channeling your best ability to achieve great results. The club also aims to work closely with related groups to put together various fun events that may coincide (pi day etc) since our mission is to become a unified body of students, past students and lecturers who can help each other better understand the field and portray our best selves within the industry.
