While therapists and doctors serve as guides as you navigate autism as a parent, never forget that you are the most important person in your child's life. Many parents ask about ways they can support their child’s development at home and here are just a few:

→ Be patient and observant and notice what makes your child tick
→ Reduce screen time as much as possible
→ Play, play, play!
→ Make the most of your routines and use them to teach your child skills

None of these suggestions require money or special equipment. Consistency goes a long way in building new skills. What's one thing that you are intentionally going to do differently to enhance your child's development this week?

Pausing before giving your child what they want can be the hardest yet most powerful thing that you do.

Most of us anticipate our children's needs before they've had a chance to engage us. We know he wants the juice, so we hand him the juice. Communication never has to happen.

So try this instead: hold the cup where he can see it, smile patiently and look at him expectantly, and count silently to five.

It will feel like forever but do it anyway. Some children need more time to organise a response and giving them a five or even ten extra seconds can make a big difference.

Try it once today. Tell me what happened in the comments.

I frequently meet parents who first noticed something at 2 years of age and were told to give it time. They gave it time. Now the child is starting school and the gap is wider.

I understand why families wait. Sometimes a developmental concern gets absorbed into family opinion very fast — the aunty who says he's spoiled, the grandmother who says all of them talked late. It comes from love. It still costs time.

Here are four things I look at before word count 👆

If you have a concern, it is always better to check and see instead of wait and see.

Stop wondering if you're getting it right. Start knowing. 💚

One of the hardest parts of this journey is doing it in the dark — with no one to tell you whether you're on the right track.

Inside CAP-C, you're not guessing anymore. You have experts to check in with, a community to reflect with, and guidance that helps you actually see your child's progress — and your own.

"Is any of this even working?" 💚

Almost every parent of an autistic child has thought it — usually on a hard day, when progress feels invisible.

But here's the thing about this journey: the wins are quiet. A calmer morning. A new food touched. One less meltdown this week. They're easy to miss when you're in the thick of it.

You ARE making a difference. Sometimes you just need someone who knows what to look for to help you see it. 💚

Ever wonder what actually happens inside CAP-C? 💚

Let me give you a peek… In our last Q&A session, a parent asked a question about how to help her autistic child remain focused for longer while completing homework. We were able to talk about how building routines applies to her specific situation.

Parents and caregivers are often bombarded with information but have no idea how to actually apply what they learn to their child at home. CAP-C offers a judgment-free space where no parent has to figure it out alone. Just parents and experts, working together to give our children the best possible support.

This is what's waiting inside — not just information, but people who fill your cup back up. 💚

About last week. 💚

Our CAP-C members spent the evening with registered dietitian Jessica John, and there was SO much value in it. A few highlights we had to share 👆

The biggest reminder of the week? Feeding challenges are common, they're not a sign of failure, and with patience and the right strategy, they can be overcome.

This is exactly why CAP-C exists — expert guidance you can trust, and a community walking the same road. 💚

Nobody sees how much you carry. 💚

The appointments you juggle. The meltdowns you talk your child through. The plans you research, the foods you prepare three different ways, the nights you barely sleep. The constant, quiet question in the back of your mind: Am I doing enough? Am I getting this right?

You pour everything into your child — and often, no one is pouring anything back into you.

Here's what I need you to hear: you cannot run on empty forever, and you were never meant to. Even the most devoted parent needs support poured back in. 💚
