A message board for the department, lecturers and tutors to communicate with students of the Communication Studies Programme. We are proud of our students!

This degree requires creativity, commitment, and an appetite for hard work. However, despite its demanding nature, Communication Studies majors and minors routinely describe the pursuit of the degree as deeply rewarding and fulfilling. We seek to develop students' environmental and civic responsibilities as well as their ability to work in teams. Being a strong team player is a vital requirement f

or professional success in any industry; our programme nurtures this skill by offering many opportunities for working in groups. Students pursuing this discipline will also have the opportunity to engage with assignments that call for a balance of academic rigor and “out of the box” creativity. Students often describe their assignments as challenging but enjoyable. We, in the Communications Studies section feel that the most efficient training takes place when the student is fully engaged and happy, so we constantly work towards making this a reality. The degree in Communication Studies serves as a platform for careers in the fields of advertising, journalism, marketing, public relations, corporate communication, careers in the various forms of media, events management, marketing consultants and the list could go on. The various areas where Communication Studies can be an asset are limitless. The skills gained from the theoretical and research method components of the program and participation in active research will contribute to a fulfilling postgraduate career. It also provides the acumen for conducting research for the public as well as the private sector(s) in the areas of social development, organizational behavior, public policy, educational research and numerous other areas. In addition to the traditional jobs, new media is providing a budding stage for creative, entrepreneurial thinkers. The programme attracts a wide range of talented students, so the opportunities to benefit from one’s colleagues, and to reciprocate, are numerous. The experience offered by the pursuit of this degree is powerful for both the student’s intellect and their holistic development.

Fantastic collaboration between our Communication and Geography departments! You can see the details of the panel discussion: Can Austerity bring a "Better Future For All" - which took place right here at the U.W.I. St. Augustine in April - in your U.W.I. Today July 1st publication. We're excited for more of these types of events. Many thanks to Scott and Levi for this initiative! The great thing about this event was the combination of emerging scholars, U.W.I lecturers and public figures. U.W.I needs to see more unity like this!

Should you be looking for a fun and exciting elective to help complete your degree, or are simply finding interesting ways to fill up your time, I recommend LITS 1001! This poetry course which will introduce you to one of the world's oldest and deepest art forms. The course will not only focus on some of the world's most popular and renowned poets, but also on modern day poets, Caribbean poets and poetry in all its forms, from calypso to spoken word movements and the like.

Just a reminder...

Internships in the fields of social media, marketing and promotions for the following are open for application,
-Diane's Tea House
-Tobago Jazz Ensemble
-Film Project- Amour/Desamour

The social media internships are two months long and the film internships are three months long. You will be workign 5-10 hours for the week.
These internships are not paid. However, successful work may lead to employment.

Interviews will take place between 2-4pm on Monday, February 23rd, 2015 in her office, Room 315 (Top floor of the Humanities Building).

For those who are interested please email her an updated resume by Monday March 9th, 2015.
