The Institute’s Library was established in 1966 by way of a special grant from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and a gift of UN documents. Today, the Library houses a comprehensive collection of information resources on international relations, with a focus on material covering the Caribbean and Latin American region. Human trafficking is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. It robs people of their freedom, dignity, and safety through exploitation and abuse.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us that everyone is entitled to fundamental rights and freedoms, regardless of race, s*x, nationality, religion, or any other status (Article 2). Human trafficking violates these rights, including:
Article 1: All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
Article 2: Everyone is entitled to human rights without discrimination.
Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security.
Article 4: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude.
Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
This World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, let us stand together to protect human dignity, defend human rights, and help end human trafficking.
Every person deserves freedom. Every right deserves protection.

The Institute of International Relations (IIR), The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Colegio Nacional de Diplomáticos de Carrera (CONADIP) of the República de Panamá. This milestone marks an important step in strengthening academic cooperation, diplomatic engagement, research collaboration, and professional exchange between our institutions.
