DOUBLE TROUBLE : Grenada × Trinbago & a rare privilege to be adjacent to my padna in art Edward Bowen, fresh from his Venice Biennale showing. A quater century ago we exhibited together after an international artists' workshop & that was it. Looking forward to lighting up proceedings with deeply satifying exchanges between Caribbean first cousins, multiplying our powers which are needed now more than ever. SPECIAL SPECULATIVE FICTION EVENT - THURS 16TH 5-9PM!!!

FINAL PIVOT: THE AFRO-FUTURISM EVENT CARDED FOR NALIS, PORT OF SPAIN ON THURS 16TH JUL WILL NOW BE HELD AT THE UWI, FILM PROGRAMME BUILDING, ST AUGUSTINE.

TIME: 5 - 9 pm (screening starts at 6pm)
PLACE: The UWI Film Degree Programme Building #12 Carmony Road, St. Augustine.

SCHEDULE:
• 5-6pm- Meet & Greet. Local Artists submit work to show
• 6pm- Screening of 'Matty's Rocket' by acclaimed American Afrofuturist Tim Felder
• 7:15pm- Special Presentation 'GOD IS A TRINI- The Afrofuturist Caribbean of SISTAGOD/Dr Yao Ramesar'.
• 7:30 - 8pm- Discussion on Black representation in Hollywood,
• 8- 9pm- Futurist Potluck: Audience members walk with & share favourite works of Afro-Futurism & local T&T Afro-Futurist share their work

The event is part of ''THE BLACK INFINITE: The Global Rise of Afro-Futurism Exhibition' now on at the National Library and Information System Authority - NALIS Abercromby St. Port of Spain.

FINAL DAY!!! Fri 17th Jul: Tours whole day. 6PM Exhibition comes down.

AFRO-FUTURISM refers to storytelling by & about Black & Brown peoples that is free from shackles & stereotypes- including, but not limited to, Black Sci-Fi & Fantasy. These books, films, photographs, paintings, & creations overturn centuries of White Western erasure & degradation of the Black Image.

The genre exploded into popular consciousness with Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’, Sony’s ‘Into the Spider Verse’ & Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’, along with series like HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ & ‘Lovecraft Country’- but has existed long before this.

These stories were just the visible mainstream arrowheads of a genre that is setting new standards for Black heroism in global pop culture & reflects a culture of Storytelling that is opening up new vistas of imaginative freedom for Black & Brown representation, emancipating Black possibilities into the Infinite.

We, the Caribbean, need to raise our hands in terms of our input in the greater Afrofuturism, pulse that exists within all of us. It is a lineage that stretches from our Carnival masquerade to SciFi writer Nalo H
