This year’s calendar of activities for the club began with the mantra ‘Small Space, Big Yield.’ The Kiwanis Club and the 4-H Club merged efforts, successfully completing projects that brought great satisfaction to the hearts and minds of all students.

In keeping with the 4-H pledge, our ‘Pump It Up Session’ encouraged all participants to stay active, promoting fitness, teamwork, and healthy living.

History:
Nestled in the heart of the village of Mt. St. George, Tobago, a small denominational school Mt. St. George Methodist Primary School ignited the 4H Club with the premise to keep the children engaged in activities and become lovers of agriculture. The 4H club registered 17 members in the month of June 2023 under the name Greenhill 4H Club. The name was derived from one of the village’s most well-known and prominent sites called the Greenhill Waterfall.

Throughout our two years as a registered club, our activities have modelled the acronyms; head, hands, heart and health. Community collaboration, that is, parents, nearby farmers, home garden unit, handymen and passers-by continue to be inspirational and encouraging as each rendered assistance in one way or another.
Past and Present Engagements:
The students chose to adopt an elderly within the community to whom we visited bearing good tidings and gifts, a school beautification project which is incomplete but a work in progress, learning about good agricultural practices both theory and practical every Thursday of the week, sales of organic produce like bananas and seasoning and Aerobics burn out session during the Carnival period.

To have the students not only fully engaged in agricultural practices but developing the holistic child we established an internal executive comprised of treasurer and Asst. Treasurer, President and PRO. They assist in keeping members abreast of our weekly activities, book-keeping, and record keeping of regularity and punctuality.

Last year the students decided to take it a step further into food preservation under the watchful eye of their Voluntary Leader Ms. Pamela Ottley. The students were briefed about the proper handling of food for sale and personal consumption. Everyone was fully engaged from harvesting, bringing additional herbs from home, to sorting by name, washing/sterilizing, and creating the final product which is seasoning. The Club’s mantra is to ‘Give of our first produce before anything else’ .
This year stay tuned for more exciting moments with the club.
