💙💛 **World Down Syndrome Day – March 21** 💛💙
Today we recognize **World Down Syndrome Day (3/21)** — a date chosen to represent the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome.
It’s a day to celebrate inclusion, raise awareness, and promote understanding of people with Down syndrome in our communities and around the world. 💙💛
🧦 You may see people wearing bright, mismatched socks today — they symbolize chromosomes and celebrate differences that make us special!
✨ **Myth vs Fact** ✨
❌ **Myth:** People with Down syndrome cannot live independent or fulfilling lives.
✅ **Fact:** With support, education, and opportunities, many individuals with Down syndrome attend school, work, build meaningful relationships, and contribute greatly to their communities.
Inclusion starts with respect, kindness, and education. Let’s continue building a society where everyone is valued and empowered. 💙

😊🌞 International Day of Happiness – March 30 🌞😊
Today we celebrate the simple joys, big wins, quiet moments, and everything in between that makes life brighter! 💛
The International Day of Happiness reminds us that happiness is more than a feeling — it’s about kindness, connection, gratitude, and community. Here at the library, happiness can be found in the pages of a good book, a shared laugh during storytime, or discovering something new. 📚✨
In Trinidad and Tobago, happiness might sound like sweet pan in the distance, taste like your favourite home-cooked meal, or feel like good company under a shady tree. 🇹🇹🌴
Today, we encourage you to:
🌼 Share a smile
📖 Read something that inspires you
🤝 Check in on a friend
🙏 Practice gratitude
Tell us below — what makes YOU happy? 💬💛

A good story sometimes lives two lives — one on the page and one on the screen. 📚🎬
If you enjoyed the action-packed film The 5th Wave, you might be surprised to learn it’s only the beginning of the story! The movie is based on the first book in the gripping sci-fi series by Rick Yancey, but the full adventure continues across three books:
The 5th Wave,
The Infinite Sea, and
The Last Star.
While the film delivers thrilling alien invasions and fast-paced action, the books dive deeper into the characters, their fears, and the fight to survive a world taken over by mysterious “waves” of destruction.
📖 Team Book or Team Movie?
Tell us below — which version did you enjoy more? And if you’ve only seen the movie, maybe it’s time to experience the rest of the story in the books! 👽✨
We have all 3 at our library, come check us out!

🔦 Word Spotlight
Word: Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
Meaning: The ironic term used to describe the fear of long words.
Fun Fact: The word itself is extremely long — which makes it a bit of a joke in the English language! The term was created humorously by combining several long Greek and Latin roots related to size and length.
Example:
He joked that anyone who can pronounce “hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia” clearly probably doesn’t suffer from it! 😄
Language can be fascinating, funny, and sometimes a little ironic! What’s the longest word you know? Tell us below. 👇📚

🛠️ **Man Talk**
A good man doesn’t need to know everything…
but he should know **how to handle something.**
Change a tyre.
Fix a loose screw.
Cook at least one solid meal.
Keep his word.
Because real confidence isn’t loud —
**it shows in the little things a man can handle.**
👊🏽
What’s **one skill every man should know?**

# # Taking Care of Your Library Books
When you borrow a library book, you’re helping keep it in good condition for the next reader too.
Please remember to keep books clean, dry, and safe, and use a bookmark instead of folding pages.
Also, don’t lend your library books to friends or neighbours. The book is checked out under your card, so you are responsible for it until it’s returned.
If someone would like to read it too, encourage them to visit the library and get their own library card.
Let’s work together to keep our books in great shape for everyone. 📖✨
