Did you know that NE Tobago, including where we are in Castara, has been declared as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve?! It joins the other 713 biosphere reserves in 129 countries around the globe all recognised for their potential to promote solutions reconciling the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use.
The North-East Tobago Biosphere Reserve presents a rare largely intact Caribbean Island Ridge-to-Ocean ecosystem that includes the world’s oldest tropical rainforest reserve, the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve, established in 1776. It encompasses 83,488 ha, with a marine area of 68,384 ha that is home to coral reefs and mangroves. WOW!
Such a privilege to be part of this reserve and we look forward to continuing to sponsor the regeneration of the coral reefs through our partnership with ERIC - Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville, Tobago.
