With the recent steps in reintroducing Continuous Assessment into Trinidad and Tobago's education system, I thought this would be a good time to revisit an article I wrote on 13 December 2024.

Long before the current conversation gained momentum, I shared my thoughts on the strengths and challenges of continuous assessment and why I believe a balanced, hybrid approach may serve our children best.

Education is too important for quick fixes. Every change should be carefully considered, evidence-informed, and centred on what is best for our students.

✏️ A few years ago, during exam time, I noticed a child constantly twisting and pulling at her hair while working.

At first, it seemed like a harmless habit. But as the weeks went by, it became more frequent.

Eventually, there was a noticeable thinning of the hair in that area.

What many adults don't realize is that anxiety doesn't always look like tears or complaints.
Sometimes it looks like:

• Constant hair pulling or twisting
• Nail biting
• Difficulty sleeping
• Frequent stomach aches
• Irritability
• Loss of confidence
• Difficulty concentrating

As end-of-term exams begin across Trinidad and Tobago, let's remember that some children carry stress more heavily than others.

A child who seems distracted, emotional, or restless may not be lazy or unprepared. They may simply be anxious.

This is why, during exam season, children need encouragement more than pressure.

A calm voice, a good night's sleep, and the reassurance that their worth is not determined by a test score can make a world of difference.

Exams are important, but our children's wellbeing is even more important. 💛

🧡 Sunday Reflection

One thing I've been reminded of over the past few weeks is that interest is often not the issue.

Many parents genuinely want opportunities that will help their children learn, grow, and build confidence. More often than not, the challenge is balancing priorities, commitments, and finances.

As an educator and business owner, these conversations have reminded me that every family's situation is different. Sometimes a "not yet" is not the same as a "no."

With this understanding is one of the reasons we have tried to offer different options for our Discover & Grow Vacation Camp:

In those moments, I am reminded that my responsibility is to be faithful to the work God has placed before me.

The results are not always mine to control.

So for now, I keep working, keep trusting, and keep believing that God sees what others may not.

📸 A Look Back... and A Look Ahead 🧡

As we prepare for the Discover & Grow Vacation Camp 2026, I found myself reflecting on some of the wonderful moments from previous camps and educational programmes.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with children as they explored new ideas, developed new skills, built friendships, and discovered talents they never knew they had.

These photos are a reminder that meaningful learning does not only happen through worksheets and textbooks. It happens through experiences, conversations, creativity, collaboration, and opportunities to try something new.

Every camp has its own special memories, and this year will be no different.

With guest authors, Calypso Writing sessions, hands-on activities, and other exciting experiences planned, I am looking forward to welcoming a new group of children ready to learn, create, and grow.
