🧠When children are exposed to open-ended play, their brains begin to operate differently. This type of play activates core areas of development that are fundamental for life, not just for school.

Through open-ended play, children naturally develop essential 21st-century competencies, including:
👉🏼Creative and divergent thinking
👉🏼Imagination and innovation
👉🏼Collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation
👉🏼Leadership and autonomous decision-making
👉🏼Conflict resolution and negotiation
👉🏼Executive functioning: including planning, cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, and working memory

These are not isolated skills. They are foundational abilities required for navigating a complex, changing world.

And yet, children access all of them through play. No adult-led instruction, no rigid curriculum. Just play, open-ended, unstructured, and intrinsically motivated.

So why do we still restrict play within our educational systems? Why do we continue to prioritize memorization and passive learning, when neuroscience tells us play is the brain’s most natural and powerful way to learn?

If we want to prepare children for life, not just for tests, we must reimagine how learning happens.

👉🏼👉🏼Comment RETHINK if you’re ready to explore a new way forward. My Master Class on Play-Based Education will guide you through the intentional design of learning environments and strategies that place these life skills at the core.
Available in English and Spanish.

CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK
aka the stuff that could literally save your child’s life.

If you’re buckling them in like it’s “close enough”… stop. Read this.

Here’s what SAFE actually means:
Straps flat, tight, and untwisted, no room for slack, no excuses. If you can pinch the harness at the collarbone? It’s too loose.

Chest clip at armpit level, not the belly button. Not the neck. Armpit.

The base? Shouldn’t move more than 1 inch side to side or front to back. If it does, it’s not secure enough. Tighten it down like your kid’s life depends on it, because it does.

Rear facing is the safest position. Period.

“But they’re tall.”

Good news! Their legs being criss cross applesauce is still a thousand times safer than forward facing too soon.

Remember:
Their neck bones aren’t ready to take crash forces forward. Rear facing distributes that force and protects their spine, neck, and brain.

Let Grandma roll her eyes.
Let the strangers make comments.
Your child’s safety is more important than anyone’s opinion.

Because “good enough” isn’t safe enough.
