Raising Caribbean Leaders
through culture, language & PLAY Hi, I'm Isabel Dennis. Welcome and thanks for stopping by. Today, this entire space is run by me.
I've curated this online space because it's what I've been looking for - a place to question, understand and rethink the present, past and future of life in the Caribbean. You will find loads of information about education, young people and learning because I'm deeply concerned about the development of young people from a theoretical and practical perspective. However, you will also find informat

Teachers have an impossible job, but...
With some support, it can get much easier.
I've started a daily routine in a Form 1 class called Morning Meds, and it's making a shift in their attitudes.
It happens during roll call, and it takes very little effort to start.
If you are an educator or parent looking for a way to shift your learner's attitude, DM so I can help.
Exams don't test intelligence. They test:
How well you perform under pressure
How well you can recall the work
How well you meet their standards
High grades mean you played their game well
Low grades means you didn't
But we walk away from school believing we either rel smart or dunce because of our grades.
Join me on Wednesday 11th March as I explore how Exams Kill Confidence and what you can do about it.

When did you show up when everything told you not to?

I had a powerful conversation with a parent recently.
They were stressed because even though their child knew the work, the exam results just didn’t reflect it.
They tried extra lessons.
They talked it through.
Nothing changed.
It wasn’t a lack of intelligence, focus or effort.
It was the child's ability to self-direct under pressure.
That’s the work I do.
I help students learn how to regulate themselves so they can think clearly, focus, and respond when it matters most.
In January, I’m running 3 workshops with very small groups (max 5 students) for students who struggle with exam anxiety, focus, or motivation.
If it sounds like your child needs this, DM me so we can talk it through and I can help you get rid of at least one stressful thing on your mind!
P.S. If adults struggle to perform under pressure, it makes sense that children do too. The good news? Once students learn how to work with pressure, they’re far more able to do their best.

You're mad vex because your child came home with bad grades. You worked so hard to get them a good education and this is what they do?!
The worst thing you can do right now is punish them.
The best thing? Use the Christmas break to rebuild their confidence so they actually WANT to do better.
In 3 short videos, I'll show you how, using the same system that has students begging to join my class in school.
Don't Let Bad Grades Ruin Christmas: Get the guidance to have them wanting to do better next term.
Access everything on Dec 18th (Offer closes Boxing Day)
Get it here: https://justlearningtolive.gumroad.com/l/christmas25
P.S. This is the same approach working in our school pilot where 75% of parents saw major confidence shifts in just a few weeks.

YES, the future of our nation rests in the minds of our young people.
But if we mostly get what we put in...then what are we putting into their minds? What are we putting into their bodies? What are we putting into their environment?
How are we helping them understand themselves and the world so that they can navigate it with confidence and clarity about what makes sense for not only their lives, but their communities?
How are we modeling the change we want to see in the world so that our young people can continue where we left off?
If our schools are not concerned with these topics, then what are they concerned with? And how will that impact the future of our nation? More importantly, what is the quality of life are we setting our children up for?
I'm starting back a virtual monthly series on the future of education in the English speaking Caribbean....it'll be fore parents, educators and anyone interested in figuring out practical steps to deep learning.
Comment or DM me if you are interested so that I can send the deets when I start.
