MADE IN THE VILLAGE
The BIGGEST Pan in Saint James, Trinidad, RTT
STEELPAN MONTH MAY BE ENDING. THE VILLAGE JOURNEY CONTINUES…
August was designated by Pan Trinbago as Steelpan Month — a time to celebrate Trinidad & Tobago’s national instrument, its history, its artistry, and its cultural legacy.
Today, on the final day of Steelpan Month, the Village celebrates in a way that is uniquely ours.
We don’t just play pan. We reimagine it.
At the heart of the Village is the D-Pan — a mega pan designed by Lyndon Achee, bringing together innovation, imagination and the possibilities of the steelpan.
But great pan doesn’t happen by design alone.
It takes the hands, ears, experience and mastery of those who understand the instrument at its deepest level. Veteran master tuner Michael ‘Penta’ Cupidore is an important part of that process, bringing decades of knowledge and craftsmanship to the making and tuning of the D-Pan.
That connection between innovation and tradition is what makes the Village sound possible.
Here’s an excerpt featuring Lyndon Achee on the D-Pan with Calypso Nova, performing 6/8.
Song: 6/8Composer: Andre TankerArrangers: Lyndon Achee & David Achee
Steelpan was born in Trinidad & Tobago through creativity, ingenuity and fearless experimentation.
That spirit lives on in the Village.
We honor the masters who came before us.We value the craftsmen who keep the instrument alive. We embrace the innovators pushing its boundaries. And we look toward the possibilities still ahead.
This is the Village (St. James Housing Scheme). This is D-Pan.
Rooted in the legacy. Tuned for the future.
