Phil Trim - Pop Tops - Mamy Blue 12/03/2021

Did you know that the vocalist Phil Trim - famous for the english version - O Mammy Blue - is a Trini from La Brea - and not Point Fortin as stated on YouTube?

Theophilus Earl Trim vocalist, composer and musician born in La Brea on January 5, 1940 was very successful in Europe starting in the late 1960's as the lead singer of the Spanish rock band Los Pop Tops a.k.a. Pop Tops. He wrote the English lyrics for the band's greatest hit "Mamy Blue" which became an international sensation in 1971 and has been covered ever since by countless singers, bands, and orchestras.

In 1974 Phil went solo and recorded several albums both in English and Spanish. Although his repertoire consisted mainly of soulful love ballads, he was most successful in the Disco genre with dance tunes such as "Give me your love" (1977) and "Summer Love" (1978). Phil has remained active in the recording studios as composer-producer-musician doing work for other vocalists as well as his own, and performs often in concert and on television.
