We often undervalue the importance of social and emotional skills in assisting children's transition to school. We place instead a greater focus on their academic aptitude, expecting that the school environment will equip your child with the social and emotional skills to navigate daily challenges.
The reality of a new term means that many other children are trying to adjust to new routines as well, and your child's personal needs can easily (though not intentionally) be overlooked.
My SEA Development Enhancement Program is perfect for the toddler/preschooler transitioning to a school environment. I work individually, or in small groups to foster relationship building and core social-emotional skills.
Sessions will be conducted at Opal Kids, Cascade Office.
Call Kenisha Ballantyne at 702-9949 for more information.

Small world play encourages children's creativity and problem-solving skills as they work through scenarios. It is also an excellent way to build social skills and conflict resolution among younger children.

I call these my 'magical tools'. Great for bonding with my new clients. We begin with the calming activity of placing the sticks into the jar, followed by the fun element of the egg shakers. Great tools for hand-eye coordination, concentration, turn-taking, language skills and sound discrimination.

Have a hesitant writer? They may just need a change of perspective.
Encourage your child to write against a vertical surface or even under a table! This novel way of doing the activity is sure to keep your child motivated.
And in doing so, you'll help develop core strength and shoulder stability.

Did you know?
Most of the activities needed to develop fine motor skills for handwriting can be done without using writing utensils such as pencils and crayons? We use the same fingers to manipulate tweezers, sq**rt bottles, stamps, stringing beads, pegs, etc., that we use to hold our pencil correctly while drawing, coloring, and writing. Incorporating some of these activities into your daily routine will provide those little hands with a much-needed workout in preparation for handwriting.
