Today, we celebrate the 114th birth anniversary of Dr. Eric Eustace Williams, founding father of Trinidad and Tobago, scholar, historian, and visionary leader.

Born in 1911, he rose from humble beginnings, excelling at Queen’s Royal College before earning an Island Scholarship to Oxford, where he graduated with First Class Honours.

His landmark work Capitalism and Slavery reshaped global history. Founder of the People’s National Movement in 1956, he became our first Prime Minister in 1962, guiding the nation through Independence, Republican status, and educational and economic transformation.

His enduring legacy lives on in our identity and watchwords: Discipline, Production, Tolerance.
