Shift to Skill-Based and Interdisciplinary Learning
The instructional focus is shifting from purely memorizing facts to developing critical thinking and applied knowledge through hands-on experiences.
Examples of Skill-Based and Interdisciplinary Learning
1) Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Students learn through the experience of planning, designing, and completing an extended project, which encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving.
2) STEAM/STEM Education
Increased emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) from an early age, often incorporating hands-on experiments and simple coding basics.
3) Microlearning
Breaking down content into smaller, focused, "bite-sized" units or modules to increase engagement, retention, and comprehension, which is often paired with a move toward competency-based learning.
