I used to freeze every time I had to deal with conflict at work.
Now people call me to help with theirs.
Here's what changed.

Nobody teaches you how to mediate. Not in school. Not at your first job. Not in most leadership programmes.

You're just... expected to know how to deal with it.

So you avoid the hard conversations. Or you take sides without meaning to. Or you say something and make it worse.

That was me...until I got trained.

Mediation isn't about being a peacekeeper or suppressing conflict. It's a structured skill set:
๐ŸŸฆ How to hold space while remaining neutral.
๐ŸŸฆ How to surface what people actually need (vs. what they're demanding).
๐ŸŸฆ How to guide two people to an agreement they both own.
๐ŸŸฆ How to close a conflict so it doesn't reopen in a few weeks.

These are learnable skills. In hours, not years.

The Essential Mediation Skills course teaches you exactly this, whether you're an HR professional, a manager, a legal professional, an administrator, or someone who wants to turn conflict resolution into a career.

Who in your organization needs this the most? (Tag them...or just think of their face.)

โ” What's your conflict style?
Most people don't know, and it's ruining their relationships at work.

There are 5 conflict styles. Only one actually resolves things.

Which one are you?

The Avoider. "It's fine. Forget it." (Spoiler: nothing is fine.)

The Exploder. Emotion first, logic never. (Everyone walks on eggshells around you.)

The Accommodator. "Whatever you want." (You resent everyone quietly.)

The Competitor. Winning > understanding. (You win the argument, lose the relationship.)

The Collaborator. "Let's figure this out together." (This is the one. This is the goal.)

Most of us shift between styles depending on the situation.

But if you default to one of the first four under pressure, there's a skill gap, not a personality flaw.

And skill gaps can be fixed.

Comment which style you are (be honest).

Tag someone who's definitely a Competitor or Avoider. They know who they are.

๐Ÿ—ฃ Your team isnโ€™t โ€œdifficultโ€. They were never taught how to disagree.

Most managers in T&T spend a significant chunk of their week managing conflict.
Not resolving it. Managing it.

There's a difference, and it's quietly draining your organisation.

Here are 4 signs your team has a conflict culture problem (not a people problem):
1. The same arguments keep surfacing in different meetings.
2. People go quiet in the room and loud in the car park.
3. Your best performers are the most frustrated.
4. You're hearing about problems after they've already exploded.

And the cost? It's not just morale.

In the local context, unresolved conflict sometimes ends up at the Ministry of Labour. Then the Industrial Court, which recorded over 700 disputes filed, and those are only the ones that made it to formal proceedings.

Most conflict never gets that far. It just slowly kills productivity, drives good people out the door and leaves managers in the middle trying to hold everything together.

The fix isn't harder HR policies. It's training people how to actually talk to each other.
