The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI) was founded in 1997 to address the need for trained professionals in the growing tourism and hospitality industries and for Trinidad

and Tobago to compete in a globally competitive market, alongside other Caribbean islands. In 2006, THTI fully implemented the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Caribbean Tourism Learning Systems (CTLS) Core Curriculum programme. This allowed the alignment of courses with those taught at other institutions throughout the region, facilitating seamless transfer of students between tourism training organizations, and more importantly, offering a wider, range of opportunities for employment. George, Tobago, just north of the picturesque Hillsborough Bay. The sprawling campus sits on 100-acre scenic estate of pristine forest land that once formed part of the Mount Saint George Estate and Sugar Works plantation. Historic ruins of the sugar mill, machines and water wheels, storage basins and dam are located north of the Campus, a short trek down from the aptly named Top O’ the Mill Restaurant and Bar.

Every academic year adds another chapter to the THTI story. Today, we begin the next one.

The classrooms are filling up again, the kitchens and training spaces are coming back to life, familiar faces are returning and new ones are finding their way around. The 2026/2027 academic year is officially underway.

And the timing could not be more fitting.

Tomorrow, the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute marks 29 years under the theme, “Honouring Our Legacy. Shaping the Future.”

For 29 years, students have walked through our doors, learned their craft, discovered their potential and gone on to make their mark in hospitality and tourism, in Tobago and beyond.

To those returning, welcome back. To those joining us for the first time, welcome to THTI. There is so much ahead to learn, experience and discover, and we look forward to seeing what you make of it.

Here’s to the year ahead and the next chapter of THTI. ✨

A message from Oman to our newest THTI students. 🇹🇹🇴🇲

As our new students begin their journey at THTI, Khadijah Prince, Culinary Arts graduand and former Student Council President, shared a few words of encouragement from Oman.

Khadijah’s THTI journey has taken her from the classroom and student leadership to an international internship in Oman, where her outstanding performance opened the door for her to continue her professional journey there.

Next week, she will officially become a member of the THTI Alumni, graduating in absentia as she continues building her career abroad. Her journey is a fitting reminder of just how far preparation, perseverance and making the most of every opportunity can take you.

Her advice to our newest students?
“Mise en place for the plan. Pivot for the unexpected. Persevere for the finish.”

As one cohort prepares to celebrate the completion of their THTI journey and another takes its first steps, we celebrate the possibilities that lie between.

THRIVE @ THTI: Belong. Discover. Lead.

A new chapter begins!

Yesterday, THTI officially welcomed its September 2026 intake at our Matriculation Ceremony, marking the beginning of their journey as members of the THTI family.

Throughout the day, students were introduced to life at the Institute, connected with their peers, engaged with faculty and staff, and gained valuable insight into the opportunities, expectations and experiences that will shape their time at THTI.

An engaging panel discussion with current students and alumni offered an honest look at the THTI experience, from navigating student life and making the most of practical training to internships, leadership opportunities and preparing for the world of work.

The day was about more than officially becoming a THTI student. It was about building connections, discovering what lies ahead and encouraging our newest students to take ownership of the journey from day one.

To our newest members of the THTI family, welcome! This is your time to Belong. Discover. Lead.

Three days. One unforgettable celebration of Tobago. 🇹🇹🇨🇦

Sunday, August 30, 2026 brought Trinbago Toronto to an incredible close at Nathan Phillips Square, capping off three days filled with the culture, cuisine, creativity, music and unmistakable energy of Tobago.

From our rich heritage and unique culinary traditions to the sounds of calypso, steelpan and soca, Toronto experienced a taste of what makes Destination Tobago truly extraordinary.

Also helping us share the Tobago story was the Tobago Hospitality & Tourism Institute (THTI). Being Tobago’s premier tertiary institution for hospitality and tourism education, THTI was on display providing local dishes crafted through talent, skills and innovation.

This Trinbago Toronto partnership was brought to life through the collective efforts of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation (DoTACI), Tobago Festivals Commission Limited (TFCL), Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), Tobago Hospitality & Tourism Institute (THTI) and Trinbago Toronto.

To everyone who came out, celebrated with us, tasted with us, danced with us and experienced Tobago with us, thank you!

You’ve had a taste. Now come experience Tobago for yourself.

While Trinbago Toronto has come to an end, Tobago’s festival calendar continues to flow!

Next up for Tobago Festivals Commission Limited is the Tobago Blue Food Festival on October 18, 2026. Then, from October 30–November 1, 2026, Tobago Carnival celebrates its 5th anniversary! 🎭🔥🎶
