My two cents: The Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) process in Trinidad and Tobago urgently needs greater transparency and proper regulation. This includes not only the exam itself but also the materials and preparation tools being marketed to students. Many SEA booklets currently available contain overly difficult questions that are unrealistic and unlikely to appear on the actual exam. This creates unnecessary stress and confusion for students and parents alike. I personally know of a student who was deeply affected by the lack of proper guidance. Her teacher advised her parents to list underperforming schools, despite her strong academic potential. Throughout the year, this student was constantly berated and labeled as "stupid," a "damaging and inaccurate judgment." Ironically, her SEA results proved otherwise, as she scored high enough to qualify for St. Francois Girls’ College or Holy Name Convent. The Ministry of Education should implement a national review and CERTIFICATION system for ALL SEA practice materials, ensuring alignment with the actual exam’s format and difficulty. Furthermore, standardized training and monitoring should be introduced for primary school teachers to ensure FAIR, SUPPORTIVE GUIDANCE for all students, especially during school selection.
