Su***de prevention isn’t just about one day. It’s about creating spaces where people feel safe enough to speak, ask for help, and know that they’re not alone.

Today, we heard from our counsellor Mrs Phillips about the importance of having honest conversations about su***de prevention, recognizing when someone may be struggling, and reaching out to check in. 💜

Sometimes, a simple “Are you okay?” can open the door to a conversation someone desperately needed.

So don’t just scroll past. Check on your people. Start the conversation. Listen. And remind someone that they matter.

Sometimes, you never really know what someone is carrying behind the smile, the silence, or the “I’m okay.”

Su***de prevention starts with noticing, listening, checking in, and reminding the people around us that they don’t have to face difficult moments alone.

If you’re struggling, please reach out. Talk to someone you trust. You don’t have to have all the answers or carry everything by yourself.

And if someone reaches out to you, listen without judgment. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone cares can make a difference.

Check on your people. Start the conversation. Be the reason someone feels seen, heard, and supported.

ONE WEEK AGO TODAY, A NEW CHAPTER BEGAN.

One week ago today, our campus was filled with new faces, new friendships, excitement, and the beginning of a brand-new journey at USC.

But behind every student taking that first step is a parent who has supported them, encouraged them, prayed for them, and believed in them every step of the way.

During Orientation 2026, we asked our parents to pick up their phones and leave their children with a little advice, encouragement, or simply a reminder that they’ll always be in their corner.

So, one week later, let’s relive those moments and hear the words our newest USC students can carry with them throughout this journey.

PDI Guyana: Empowering Skills, Creating Opportunities | Graduation 2026

107 graduates. Six short-course programmes. One incredible celebration of achievement.

On August 26, 2026, the Professional Development Institute (PDI) of the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) celebrated 107 graduates in Guyana following training in:
• Art of Television and Video Production
• Social Media and Corporate Video Production
• Drone Operations and Safety Management
• Painting Mediums, Styles and Genres
• Foundations of Vegetarian Cuisine
• Fundamentals of Video Editing

The graduation was made possible through the collaboration of USC, the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), and the Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The ceremony featured remarks from Mrs. Kathy Smith, Chairperson of BIT; Mr. Richard Maughn, CEO and Secretary of BIT; and Pastor Andrew Chichester, Executive Secretary of the Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Dr. Barbara G. Reynolds, Vice-President for Administration, Advancement and Planning at USC, continues to provide leadership in expanding PDI’s professional development and skills-training opportunities across the region.

David Barker, Multimedia Production Officer at USC and an instructor for three of the programmes, also addressed the graduates, encouraging them to put their new skills into practice and use this achievement as momentum for what comes next.

Graduates showcased their skills through student-produced films and a display of paintings created during the programme.

Learning. Learning by Doing. Doing.
Congratulations to the PDI Guyana Class of 2026.

THE ROAD TO 100 IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! 💯

Yesterday marked a defining moment in the history of the University of the Southern Caribbean as we hosted our Centennial Celebration Showcase and officially unveiled the USC Centennial Homecoming branding.

We also shared the calendar of events and offered an exciting look at the plans already in motion for our historic 100th anniversary in 2027. From signature celebrations to meaningful opportunities for our alumni, students, employees and friends to reconnect, the journey ahead promises to honour our legacy while shaping the next chapter of the USC story.

For 99 years, the University of the Southern Caribbean has remained rooted in faith, excellence, service and transformation. Now, one historic year stands before us.

Here’s a look at some of the memorable moments from yesterday’s showcase as we officially began the countdown to 100!

Founders’ Weekend concludes today, and the celebration is not over yet. We look forward to seeing you at the football tournament, alumni meeting and movie night as we bring this powerful weekend to a close.

THE COUNTDOWN TO 100 STARTS NOW!

Today, the University of the Southern Caribbean proudly unveils its official Centennial Logo, marking the beginning of a historic journey toward 100 years of faith, education, transformation and impact.

From a small training centre established in 1927 to a respected university serving Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean and the world, our story has always been one of growth, resilience and God’s remarkable guidance.

The Centennial Logo honours that journey. The prominent “100” celebrates this once-in-a-generation milestone, while the design reflects the faith, learning, heritage and forward movement that continue to shape the University of the Southern Caribbean.

For nearly a century, this institution has weathered challenges, embraced change and prepared generations of students to serve with knowledge, character and purpose. Through every season, our foundation has remained firm: faith in God, excellence in education and a commitment to developing the whole person.
