🌍🐢 Celebrating World Wildlife Day 2026

In recognition of World Wildlife Day 2026, the Reptile Conservation Centre of Trinidad and Tobago, at the invitation of the Forestry Division Wildlife Section (FDWLS), joined in celebrating this momentous occasion at Fishing Pond Presbyterian School.

This year’s theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” reminds us that protecting biodiversity is essential not only for wildlife, but also for human well-being and cultural heritage.

Through education, awareness, and community engagement, students were given the opportunity to learn about reptiles, plant conservation, and the importance of preserving our natural environment for future generations. 🌿🐍

Together, we continue to inspire young minds to appreciate, protect, and conserve the rich biodiversity of Trinidad and Tobago. 🇹🇹

A Red howler monkey (Environmentally Sensitive Species – ESS) was found along the roadside in the vicinity of Matura by Dr. Ryan Mohammed and his team.

The animal had blood in its mouth and is suspected to have been struck by a vehicle.

It is currently on its way to the Emperor Valley Zoo for urgent veterinary assessment and treatment. Transportation is being facilitated by Saiyaad Ali, Director of the RCCTT.
