The Heartbeat of Medical Sciences Students Augustine campus Guild of Students. The MSSC is composed of elected students from all five years.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences student body is governed by The Medical Sciences Students’ Council (MSSC) which is a branch of the UWI St. It is an organization that aims to positively influence student life and facilitate bidirectional communication between the student body and the faculty/administration. MSSC manages and directs the issues that the students any of the constituent schools present

to it. It is indeed a holistic representation of all students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. As elected representatives of the student body, the Medical Student Council is responsible for the following:

1. Student representation to administrators and faculty by serving on committees and submitting recommendations to the appropriate person on issues or policies.

2. To communicate issues from the administration and faculty to the students.

3. To serve as a forum for students to voice their issues, and to respond to such student issues.

4. To facilitate student participation in the medical school community.

5. To address pertinent issues of the students at UWI Guild Meetings when the need arises. On this page you will find material on clubs, committees and associations, as well as upcoming events and the latest news relevant to you as students. We encourage you to take part in our student forums/discussions so we can work together to ensure that YOU the students are accurately represented and your issues are fully addressed. Only then can we truly boast of being “the heartbeat of Medical Students”

Independence Day marks August 31st, 1962, the day Trinidad and Tobago became a sovereign nation after years under British colonial rule.
It’s a day to honor the people who fought for self-governance, and to celebrate the culture, resilience and identity that have grown since. Happy Independence Day! 🇹🇹

FMS Fest is coming 👀

Student businesses, sponsors, giveaways, performances, games, clubs, associations and a whole lot more, all in one place.

Day 1: Wednesday, 2 September
FMS Entrepreneurial Expo
Student-run businesses take over the tents, alongside sponsor booths from healthcare, retail, fitness, and student services. Expect demos, giveaways, and exclusive student deals. Plus FMS Games Day, with icebreakers and challenges!
Day 2: Thursday, 3 September
FMS Clubs & Student Association Fair
The Faculty’s biggest student life showcase. Meet all six FMS student associations, plus faith-based student associations, service and interest clubs. A stage programme of short intros, performances, and giveaways runs throughout the afternoon.
Both Days: 1 PM – 4 PM
Day 2 Bonus: Free doubles and wontons for the first 100 persons! After that, only $2.

Meet your new Medical Sciences Student Council! 💜

We have all already been working behind the scenes, making informed decisions on behalf of the students of the FMS and representing the different student bodies within the Faculty. This has been under the guidance of our Chairperson and representative to UWI Guild Council, Mr. Zachary Ramsumair.

To help you better understand the MSSC Executive, we will be outlining the specific roles and functions of each member through summaries from the MSSC Constitution (amended 2025):

As the Chief Executive Officer of the MSSC and the Faculty’s representative to the Guild Council, Zachary has general supervisory jurisdiction over all Council affairs. He chairs the Executive, Academic Affairs, Student Amenities, and Secretarial Committees and is responsible for the overall development and efficient running of the Council. His role involves maintaining vital relationships with FMS and NCRHA administration, representing the student body at high-level board meetings, and coordinating with the Treasurer to manage semesterly budgets and financial reports.

Prithivi assists the Chairperson in the overall development of the Council and steps in to chair executive meetings in his absence. She plays a leading role in student advocacy by chairing the Student Voice Committee and co-chairing the Student Amenities Committee. Additionally, she is responsible for approving risk assessments for all events with the OSHE Coordinator and works alongside the Treasurer to secure necessary sponsorships for Council activities.

Kavita serves as the primary custodian of the Council’s records and official correspondence, ensuring all minutes for executive and committee meetings are accurately maintained. She is responsible for managing meeting notices, agendas, and contact lists for the Executive. Along with the Assistant Secretary, she leads the Secretarial Team in maintaining online databases, managing Council mail, and preparing the bi-annual report for the Guild’s Annual General Meeting.

Emile works closely with the Secretary to record minutes and co-chair the Secretarial Team, ensuring all committee records and online databases, including
