Behind the scenes feature: Samuel Jemmott ~ Calm in Crisis, Heart in Community

From psychiatric nursing to paramedicine and now shaping the next generation of lifesavers, Samuel Jemmott embodies what it means to serve beyond the call of duty.

With over a decade in mental health care, Samuel began his Emergency Medical Service (EMS) journey at the Emergency Training Institute of Trinidad & Tobago (ETITT) while working full-time and managing family life. He progressed from EMT to Advanced EMT and strengthened his impact through a BSc in Nursing Education from The University of the West Indies (UWI), equipping him with advanced skills in teaching, assessment, and learner-centred education.

At the Emergency Training Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, he delivers structured, scenario-based training and mentors students in both clinical and personal growth. He supports quality assurance to ensure graduates are not just competent but confident, compassionate, and resilient in real-world emergencies.

“Teaching allows me to multiply impact. I am especially motivated by helping students achieve their goals through the use of positive reinforcement and belief.”

His commitment doesn’t stop at the classroom. Actively involved in youth development through community and entrepreneurial initiatives, Samuel believes in investing in the leaders of tomorrow:

“Nurturing young minds today builds stronger, more compassionate responders for our region tomorrow.”

Most recently, he went even further, providing sign language interpretation for families needing support with legal transactions, after being connected through one of his current paramedic students. This is service in action.
And as he reminds his students:
“Your first patient is your nervous system. Take care of yourself first.”

From nurse to educator. From classroom to community.
Samuel’s story proves that EMS is not just a profession… it’s a calling.

🔴 Student Spotlight | From CXC to Paramedic

Sanjeev Badall’s journey proves that with the right training, support, and determination, success in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) doesn’t have to take the traditional route.

Starting straight out of secondary school with his CXC passes, Sanjeev enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programme at the Emergency Training Institute of Trinidad and Tobago (ETITT) and committed himself to the EMS pathway early. In less than three years, he progressed from EMT to a graduate of the Paramedic Advanced Diploma, becoming the youngest ETITT student to receive the Paramedic Certification at just 21 years old, whilst gaining real-world skills, hands-on experience, industry-ready training, and earning his USA NREMT certification along the way.

Today, at just 23 years old, Sanjeev has come full circle, lecturing selected topics at ETITT, conducting skills evaluations and instructing practical lab sessions at the EMT level, helping shape the next generation of EMS professionals.

“What truly made the difference was the level of student support at ETITT and the instructors who brought real-life EMS experiences into the classroom. Learning through real scenarios prepared me for the realities of the field, not just the exams.” ~ Sanjeev Badall, Paramedic

He plans to grow his professional portfolio through attaining:
✅ USA – NREMT Certification (completed)
✅ Continued instructor-focused training with industry leaders, including The National Association of EMS Educators – USA
✅ IBSC certification as a Critical Care and Flight Paramedic.

“My goal is to continue gaining real-world hands-on experience, becoming a seasoned EMS educator, to continue learning, teaching, and contributing to the development of high-quality emergency care professionals.”

From student to instructor. From classroom to real-world response.
Sanjeev’s story is a powerful reminder that EMS is not just a career — it’s a calling.
