The FIFA World Cup 2026 began with millions of people around the world united by a common passion. Families gather to watch matches, young people dream of representing their nation, and entire countries rally behind their teams. One of the great lessons of football is that success depends not only on talent, but on teamwork. Every player has a role, and victory comes when individuals work together for a common goal.
In today's Gospel Matthew 9:36-10:8, Jesus forms a different kind of team. Looking upon the crowds, He saw people who are "harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd." Moved with compassion, He calls twelve ordinary men and sends them on a mission to proclaim the Kingdom of God.
The disciples were not chosen because they were perfect. They were ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses. Yet Jesus entrusted them with an extraordinary mission. The same is true for us. Through Baptism, each of us has been called to be a disciple and a missionary.
In our Archdiocese, we speak about becoming "missionary disciples." This means that our faith is not something private or passive. Every Catholic has a role to play in building God's Kingdom. Some serve through teaching, others through leadership, prayer, charity, or ministry. No one is called to remain on the sidelines.
This message is especially important for us in Trinidad and Tobago. Our nation is rich in diversity, and our national motto, "Together We Aspire, Together We Achieve," reminds us that progress comes through unity and cooperation. The same is true in the Church. We are one body in Christ, called to work together despite our differences.
Our young people have a special role in this mission. Just as athletes train with discipline and commitment, young Catholics are called to develop their gifts and use them in service of God and society. The Church needs young leaders who will choose faith over indifference, service over selfishness, and hope over despair.
As we celebrate this Eucharist, let us ask ourselves: What role am I playing on Christ's team? May we respond generously to His call, work together as missionary disciples, and help bring hope, healing, and unity to our communities. For the greatest victory is not winning a trophy but helping others encounter Jesus Christ.

Under the theme "Our Journey Continues: Walking in Faith, Stepping into the Future," the Mamoral R.C. Primary School family gathered to celebrate two special occasionsโthe Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Graduation of our Standard Five students. It was a day filled with faith, joy, gratitude, and achievement.
Students proudly showcased beautiful displays and creative artwork reflecting the themes of Pentecost, Corpus Christi, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. These presentations highlighted their understanding of God's love and the importance of keeping Christ at the centre of our lives.
As we congratulate our graduates on reaching this important milestone, we pray that they will continue to Aim High, walk confidently in faith, and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus guide and bless them on every step of their journey. โค๏ธ๐๐

TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A. June 7, 2026.
From Me to Youโฆ
As we gather on this Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A, we find ourselves in the month of June, a month traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This year, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart on June 12 and the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on June 13. These two hearts reveal to us both the depth of God's love and the perfect response to that love.
In today's Gospel, Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector, to become His disciple. Matthew was a man whom society had judged and rejected. Yet Jesus saw beyond his past and invited him into a new future. When the Pharisees questioned why Jesus associated with sinners, He replied, "What I want is mercy, not sacrifice."
Those words open a window into the Heart of Jesus. The Sacred Heart is a heart filled with mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. Jesus does not wait for people to become perfect before loving them. He meets them where they are and calls them to something greater. Matthew's life was transformed because he allowed himself to be touched by that merciful love.
The first reading from Hosea presents the same message. Although God's people had wandered away, God remained faithful. He continued to call them back to Himself. Such is the love that burns within the Heart of Christ, a love that never abandons us, even when we fall.
Alongside the Sacred Heart, the Church places before us the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mary's heart was completely open to God's will. From the Annunciation to Calvary, she trusted God and remained faithful. Her heartbeat in union with the Heart of her Son.
The Sacred Heart teaches us how God loves. The Immaculate Heart teaches us how to respond. Jesus offers mercy; Mary shows us how to receive it with faith and obedience.
As we celebrate this Eucharist, let us ask ourselves: Are our hearts becoming more like theirs? Do we forgive, welcome, and show compassion? Do we trust God even in difficult moments?
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus fill us with mercy and may the Immaculate Heart of Mary lead us ever closer to her Son.
