AI will give you an answer to almost any data question in seconds. It will also, sometimes, be confidently wrong — and it won't warn you.

Last week I watched a tool produce a beautiful, polished analysis with one quiet, fundamental error buried in it. Anyone who didn't already understand the method would have taken it at face value and built a decision on top of it.

That's the thing nobody says out loud about AI and data: it hasn't removed the need to understand statistics. It has raised it. When anyone can produce an analysis instantly, the rare and valuable skill is knowing whether the analysis is right.

The people who'll do well in this next stretch aren't the ones who can run the tools. Everyone can run the tools now. It's the ones who can look at the output and say "that number doesn't belong there" — and know why.
