Roller coasters are a thrilling demonstration of energy in motion! The reason roller coasters have to go really high at the start is all about potential energy and kinetic energy.

Here’s how it works:

1. Potential Energy at the Top: When the coaster car is at the highest point, it has a lot of potential energy due to its position (height). The higher the drop, the more potential energy it has.

2. Converting to Kinetic Energy: As the coaster car starts to drop, this potential energy turns into kinetic energy (motion). The more height you have, the faster the car will go as it converts that energy into speed! 🏎️💨

3. Why You Need Height: The initial height is crucial because it gives the coaster enough energy to make it through loops, turns, and hills. Without that high start, the coaster wouldn't have enough energy to reach the other parts of the track! ⛰️
