Today, 21 September, marks the UN International Day of Peace. This year's theme — "Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day" — is a reminder that peace is built by everyday people, not just at conference tables.

At IPRA, this is our life's work: our members research, teach, and practice peace across every region of the world. Today, we recommit to that mission.

For 63 years, the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) has connected scholars working to understand and prevent violence in all its forms.
IPRA was founded in the 1960s by pioneers of the field, including Johan Galtung, John Burton, Bert V.A. Röling, Elise Boulding, and several others who envisioned a global scientific community where peace researchers could share findings, publish, and meet across borders.

Six decades later, that mission continues: a home for peace research across every region of the world.

It is unfortunate to hear Prof. Johan Galtung passed away today!
Johan Galtung pioneered peace and conflict research and was one of the founders of the International Peace Research Association (IPRA). I was fortunate to meet and interact with him during IPRA conferences, mainly when I was IPRA co-Secretary General.

I attached some of our photos with Galtung taken during the IPRA Conference in Istanbul.

Prof. Galtung, thank you for contributing to this world; you inspired us a lot, and we will miss you.

He will always remain in the hearts of peace researchers.
His legacy will live forever in academia.

My deepest condolences to his family, peace research community and academia.
