🌍🚨 *Climate Alert: August 2024 broke global Temperature records* 🚨🌍
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (European Commission) has released its latest report, revealing critical data on global temperatures:
🌡️ August 2024 tied with August 2023 as the warmest August on record, with an average surface air temperature of 16.82°C — 0.71°C above the 1991-2020 average.
🌡️ The global temperature in August 2024 was a shocking 1.51°C above pre-industrial levels. This marks the 13th month in a 14-month period where temperatures have consistently exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial averages.
🌡️ The past 12 months (Sept 2023 – Aug 2024) have set a record for the highest global-average temperature for any year-long period ever recorded.
🌡️ The first 8 months of 2024 were the warmest on record, with temperatures 0.70°C above the 1991-2020 average, making 2024 likely to be the hottest year in recorded history.
These figures are alarming, and the evidence is clear: our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, with potentially devastating consequences for ecosystems, communities, and economies worldwide.
💡 We need urgent action from all sectors and activities, including education as a key sector. With our project we contribute to train individuals to work together to reduce emissions, embrace renewable energy, and advocate for climate action and stronger climate policies.
The time to act is NOW! Every degree matters. Let’s protect our future! 🌱💪
