Overview of Classification Score Breakdown
From Holstein USA:
“A cow’s final score is based on the five major classification categories or breakdowns of front end and capacity, dairy strength, rump, feet and legs, and udder. The classifier numerically assigns each category a score ranging from 1 to 100 points. The numbers are based on the level of desirability exhibited by individual cows for each category compared to the true-type model.”
We classify our cows several times per year and it is always a fun day talking about our favorite subject: Registered Holsteins! 🐮
Graisson’s favorite childhood classification memory was the large dinner his grandma and mom would make for everyone afterwards. He recalls one dinner in particular where the classifier wowed everyone by eating an entire dish of cheesy potatoes! 😮
Mandy’s favorite childhood classification memory was when her brother’s cow, Bella, scored Excellent-94. However, the best part of classifying as a kid was the bottomless boxes of donuts. 🍩
