Sirince Visiting School is a centre of research and experimentation on Archaic and Anatolian Heritage of Western Aegean of Turkey.

Located in the campus, our aim is to inquire distinct forms of architecture that have been proliferated around rituals and mythologies, and searching the exploratory and contemporary ways of adapting these architectural features into today’s context.

This year, we will be focusing on fire as a tool and its important place within these ancient rituals and Aegean customs. ‘Ocak’ is the place where a fire is lit and used for purposes such as heating, cooking, and gathering. We will investigate the forms of fire from Ancient Greek rituals to stone stoves used in Anatolian towns for cooking and communal gatherings.
