100th Anniversary of Urdu Language Education In Turkey (From Daru’l-Funûn to Present)
International Symposium

The teaching of Urdu in Turkey was first started in 1915 at Daru’l-Funûn, which later became the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University, by a famous Indian nationalist Abduljabbar Khairi. During the First World War the brothers, Abduljabbar and Abdulsattar Khairi, left India to pursue an education. They first went to Al-Azhar University in Egypt and then the American University of Beirut. In the middle of 1915 they came to Istanbul and joined the Teskilat-i Mahsusa, the Ottoman intelligence agency at the time. At the same time Abduljabbar Khairi started to serve as an Urdu Language instructor at Faculty of Literature(Daru’l-Funûn), Istanbul University.

On this occasion, in 2015, with the purpose of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Urdu language education in Turkey, we are organizing an international symposium titled ‘’100th Year of Urdu Language Education in Turkey (From Daru’l-Funûn to Present).

Works about Turkey, Turks and the Ottomans in Urdu.

Important Dates:
------------------------
Deadline for Paper summary: 15 April 2015.
Deadline for Full Paper: 25 May 2015.
Symposium Dates: 13-14 October 2015.
Papers are required to be prepared only in these following languages: Urdu, English, Turkish.

Important Matters :
------------------------
The participant will be responsible for their accommodation and travel expenses.
The papers and abstracts should be sent as a MS WORD document.
Abstracts must be in English language only and between 100-200 words.
Acceptance letter will be sent when the abstracts be approved.
