At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, we proudly celebrated our final assembly of the academic year, a powerful student-led event that brought together learning from all grade levels.
This meaningful celebration reflected the remarkable journey our students have experienced throughout the year. From early years to upper grades, students confidently shared their learning, performances, reflections, and creative expressions, demonstrating growth across academic, social, and emotional domains.
The assembly highlighted not only what students have learned, but also how they have learned—through inquiry, collaboration, creativity, and reflection. It was truly inspiring to witness their voice, agency, and ownership of learning shine so clearly on stage.
As a community, we came together to celebrate progress, effort, and achievement, ending the year with a strong sense of pride and connection.
At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, our ECC students enjoyed an exciting and meaningful visit to the, where they explored fascinating exhibits related to transportation, industry, and communication.
This authentic learning experience supported different Units of Inquiry across grade levels. Our Pre-Kindergarten students, as part of their Where We Are in Place and Time inquiry, explored transportation and journeys by observing vehicles such as cars, trains, boats, and airplanes. Through these experiences, they made meaningful connections to how people and goods move from one place to another.
Meanwhile, our Kindergarten students, within their How We Organize Ourselves inquiry, investigated systems within transportation and machinery. They explored how different parts work together within a system to serve a purpose and meet people’s needs.
The visit encouraged curiosity, careful observation, and critical thinking, helping students deepen their understanding of how the world around us is organized and connected.
At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, our Grade 1 students proudly celebrated the culmination of their Sharing the Planet unit by showcasing their understanding of habitats and endangered animals through thoughtfully prepared Canva presentations.
Throughout the unit, students explored important concepts including habitat, extinction, adaptation, survival, food chains, interdependence, and ecosystems. As they inquired into the connections between living things and their environments, students deepened their understanding of the impact human actions can have on natural habitats and the responsibilities we share in protecting them.
Through this learning journey, students strengthened their attributes as inquirers, caring, and principled learners, while also developing critical thinking, research (media literacy), and communication skills through the use of ICT tools. It was truly inspiring to see their confidence and understanding shine as they shared their learning with others.
At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, our Grade 4 students proudly shared their learning during the culmination of their unit on Space Technology and Exploration. Throughout the inquiry, students explored how human exploration of space reflects our desire to understand time, place, and our role in the universe.
During the End of Unit Celebration, students confidently presented their innovative space technology designs, explaining how their ideas could support future space exploration and respond to real-world challenges. Through their projects, students demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and strong research skills while making connections between scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and their global impact.
It was inspiring to see students communicate their thinking with confidence, reflect on their learning journey, and showcase their growth as inquirers, principled thinkers, and open-minded learners.
Our JMUN students stepped up as UN Environmental Ambassadors. They gave short presentations to middle school students about the vital role of bees, the threats they face, and how to protect them. This student-led initiative beautifully supported global citizenship and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, we recently welcomed Grade 5 families for our PYP Exhibition Parent Information Session, an important step in supporting our students through this meaningful learning experience.
During the session, our PYP Coordinator shared an overview of the exhibition process and the valuable role families can play in supporting students throughout their inquiries. Parents then joined their children in exhibition groups, where students introduced their central ideas, shared their early plans for research and action, and explained the goals they are beginning to develop through the inquiry process.
It was inspiring to witness students confidently communicating their ideas, collaborating with peers, and taking ownership of their learning from the very beginning. We look forward to seeing their inquiries grow into thoughtful action.
At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, Grade 2 students visited Zorlu Center as part of an authentic learning experience designed to deepen their understanding of systems in real-life contexts. During the field trip, students observed how a complex environment is organized and identified similarities between different systems, helping them make meaningful connections to their learning about how cities function.
This experience also served as a valuable provocation for their upcoming unit on Symbols and Signs, including a Signs and Symbols Hunt activity, where students actively searched for and interpreted different signs in their environment. Students were encouraged to notice how information is communicated through visual and written symbols, and how signs support people in navigating and making sense of their environment.
At MEF International Schools, Istanbul, our Grade 2 students proudly shared their learning during their Celebration of Learning, marking the culmination of their inquiry into how cities can be designed to meet the different needs of people.
Throughout the unit, students explored common features and systems found in cities, considered the diverse needs of people living within the same community, and reflected on how thoughtful planning and design can create more inclusive and sustainable environments. As part of this authentic and highly student-driven inquiry process, students designed and created their very own city: Arhhfulik — a city full of artistic elements, respect, happiness, and health.
The collaborative 3D city model beautifully showcased students’ creativity, shared thinking, and ability to work across subjects while applying research, communication, and organizational skills throughout the process. It was inspiring to see students take risks, think critically, and demonstrate care for how cities can better support people and communities.
Sharing learning from this unit with Grade 9 students and Kindergarten students, created meaningful cross-grade connections and opportunities for dialogue and reflection.
