H.E. Mr. İhsan Övüt, Secretary General of SMIIC, attended the 4th European Halal Congress, held on 09–10 June in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the opening ceremony, H.E. Mr. Övüt delivered remarks highlighting the importance of cooperation, standardization, and quality infrastructure in strengthening the global halal ecosystem.
H.E. Mr. Övüt also participated in the panel discussion titled “Halal Global Market: Challenges and Opportunities for Europe,” where key stakeholders exchanged views on market development, certification, accreditation, and the future of halal in Europe.
As Bosnia and Herzegovina is an SMIIC Observer State, represented by the Agencija za certificiranje halal kvalitete BiH - Agency for Halal Quality Certification - Bosnia&Herzegovina for Halal Quality Certification, SMIIC highly values this engagement as an important contribution to enhancing regional cooperation and advancing harmonized halal standards.
We extend our appreciation to the Agency for Halal Quality Certification for hosting this important congress and for its continued cooperation with SMIIC.

SMIIC Strengthens Halal Supply Chain Capacity through Virtual Training Programme
We are pleased to share that SMIIC successfully organized a virtual training programme on "OIC/SMIIC 17:2020 – Halal Supply Chain Management System" from 4 to 7 May 2026.
Representatives from Belgium, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, and Tunisia took part in this capacity-building initiative — a testament to the growing global commitment to halal standards.
The training was expertly delivered by Dr. Harlina Suzana JAAFAR from the Faculty of Technology and Supply Chain Management, and Chairperson of SMIIC TC10 – Halal Supply Chain committee.
Together, we are building a stronger, more transparent halal supply chain for the global Muslim community.

SMIIC wrapped up a 3-day virtual training on OIC/SMIIC 2:2019 — the international standard for halal certification bodies. Held on 20–22 April 2026, the programme brought together 27 experts, auditors, and representatives from 11 countries including Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Thailand, Türkiye, and more all focused on strengthening halal certification practices globally.

SMIIC, in collaboration with SESRIC, successfully co-organized a Training Course on “Halal Certification Frameworks and Regulatory Compliance” on 14–15 April 2026.
The activity was conducted within the framework of SESRIC’s Halal Capacity Building Programme (Halal-CaB) for the benefit of OIC Member Countries, contributing to strengthening halal quality infrastructure and regulatory compliance capacities.
