Istanbul Bilgi University Programs in consider design as an integrated culture and production area where different disciplines come together. It focuses on various scales ranging from geographical scale to individual, from urban scale to object, from architectural space to product. It questions the patterns created by human practices - all practices related to the object, architectural space, city, landscape, nature and daily life - within the context of design culture. It problematizes the ways in which critical thinking forms on the one hand; and the theoretical infrastructure of design culture at different scales on the other. It reevaluates design technologies and production styles with creative and critical thinking. Thus, it aims to establish a design research formation supported by critical theory.

The 's program and in Architecture [with thesis] admits students with a Bachelor's degree from all design disciplines.
The Master's program [without thesis] admits students with a Bachelor's degree in architecture

Everything man-made is based on the underlying topography of the landscape, its biological ecosystems and the pathways of water. If we work against the landscape, sooner or later, we will work against our own civilization.

At Schønherr, we deal with this matter from planning on the largest regional scale, such as a vision for the future development of Copenhagen with climate adaptation as a natural driving force, and to the design of directionless pavements made of recycled concrete.

Juul Frost Architects have been developing a research project on urban health with an interdisciplinary
approach to planning and urban health. The presentation will discuss health and social inclusion in Nordic cities,
towards a new culture in planning practices, showing a collection of articles, thought pieces,
introduction to tools and case examples aimed at providing inspiration and further reflection on how to
advance action. The research project is developed with support by Realdania Foundation addressing
both public and private actors within urban development.

Juul Frost Architects, bütüncül kent sağlığı kavramı üzerinde disiplinler arası bir yaklaşımla geliştirdiği
araştırma projesini anlatıyor. Sunum, İskandinav şehirlerinde planlama uygulamalarında içselleştirilen
sağlık ve sosyal farkındalığı tartışacak ve araştırma süresince üretilmiş olan farklı mecralarda
bu konuda daha fazla düşünme ve ilham sağlamayı amaçlayan vaka örneklerini tartışacaktır.
Bu araştırma, Realdania Vakfı desteğiyle, kentsel gelişimde hem kamusal, hem de özel sektöre
dahil olan farklı aktörlere seslenen bir proje geliştirilmiştir.

Under the leadership of Thomas Kaszner, Danish architect and senior associate at 3XN, we have organized a series of presentations by architects and artists from Danish architectural offices - the first of which is this week to be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 19:00 (Istanbul time). We are pleased to announce that Oriol Carrasco will be our guest with his talk on “Following Gaudí's Footsteps” in the 95th episode of Space Talks (Mekan Konuşmaları), hosted by the students of the Architecture Graduate Programs at Istanbul Bilgi University.
Gaudí as a character is difficult to describe, in his genius he was much more than an architect, he was also an artist, a mix between a geometrician and a sculptor but before all, a Visionaire. He combined the beauty of nature, or the original beauty as he called it, with the extreme rigor of geometry, shapes and light. We have a vision of him as a mystic person absent from the world, but that is far from reality. In this talk we will see some of the works from Gaudí and try to understand his context and epoch, to quickly focus on Sagrada Familia, his last and still unfinished work. As he described it, what he was proposing was the underlayer of a rhythm that already existed, and thus he only needed to replicate it in stone. He set in those stones the rules and language of his design for future generations, guiding them to continue developing his work, one that he soon realized will never see completed.
Oriol Carrasco is a Ph.D. architect from Barcelona. He has been combining teaching and working in the engineering and architectural fields since 2005, and considers himself passionate about computational design, prototyping of real-scale mock-ups and novel fabrication methods. During the last years, he has been part of the design to production team at Sagrada Familia, working on the fabrication design of pinnacles for the evangelists' towers. In the academic field, he is faculty at IAAC, where he teaches in the Master of Advanced Architecture and collaborates in the 3D Printing Architecture Postgraduate; and teaches Building Construction and Computational Design at UIC Barcelona.
The talk is open to everyone.
