Our guest, Head of Interiors at Royal College of Art, Prof. Brooker talks about Radical Heritages and Interior Design as the major profession for the built environment towards a sustainable future.
An academic and an interior designer whose practice mainly focuses on the reuse of existing buildings, Graeme Brooker explores the idea of heritage as the set of elements found on a site, to be analyzed, understood and reworked for new uses. Using his students’ work and his own, he illustrates numerous strategies by which radical heritages can be adapted for something they were never intended for.

Our first department-wide charrette was today! 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students were all engaged in a charrette that focuses on “co-cooking”. The participants proposed a scenario or design for a space, situation, or a spatial tool that fosters or enables “cooking together”. The novelty of the proposal is as important as its applicability and the way the idea is conveyed both visually and verbally. It is a rapid idea generation exercise, but the formal aspects matter too. No limitations on media other than fitting everything on a single A3 sheet of paper. The winning design proposals were selected by the students as well as our teaching staff! @ İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi
